About this listen
Magnus Chase has always been a troubled kid. Since his mother's mysterious death, he's lived alone on the streets of Boston, surviving by his wits, keeping one step ahead of the police and the truant officers.
One day, he's tracked down by an uncle he barely knows - a man his mother claimed was dangerous. Uncle Randolph tells him an impossible secret: Magnus is the son of a Norse god.
The Viking myths are true. The gods of Asgard are preparing for war. Trolls, giants and worse monsters are stirring for doomsday. To prevent Ragnarok, Magnus must search the Nine Worlds for a weapon that has been lost for thousands of years.
When an attack by fire giants forces him to choose between his own safety and the lives of hundreds of innocents, Magnus makes a fatal decision.
Sometimes, the only way to start a new life is to die...

Story
Somewhere on the frontier between thought and reality exists the Discworld, a parallel time and place that might sound and smell very much like our own, but which looks completely different. Particularly as it’s carried though space on the back of a giant turtle (sex unknown). It plays by different rules. But then, some things are the same everywhere. The Disc’s very existence is about to be threatened by a strange new blight: the world’s first tourist, upon whose survival rests the peace and prosperity of the land.

Story
Effy Sayre has always believed in fairy tales. Haunted by visions of the Fairy King since childhood, she’s had no choice. Her tattered copy of Angharad—Emrys Myrddin’s epic about a mortal girl who falls in love with the Fairy King, then destroys him—is the only thing keeping her afloat. So when Myrddin’s family announces a contest to redesign the late author’s estate, Effy feels certain it’s her destiny. But musty, decrepit Hiraeth Manor is an impossible task, and its residents are far from welcoming.

A Very Fun Read
SWORD OF SUMMER is my first experience with Rick Riordan’s books, and given how much fun I had, it will not be the last. Everything about the beginning of Magnus Chase’s journey from an unhoused teen to a mythological hero was exciting and fun.
Magnus himself is likeable with an energetic personality, quick thinking, and a desire to belong with other outcasts like him. The side characters who quickly become Magnus’s friends are also loveable and layered, so it’s easy to care about them when trouble finds them. And there is no shortage of trouble to be had.
The plot is quick moving and a ton of fun, with the scenarios being just the sort of thing young readers will enjoy. I was thoroughly entertained with the action scenes and the humour, but also appreciated the heart at the core of the story.
SWORD OF SUMMER is a fun adventure for young readers, lovers of Norse mythology, and someone looking to read a book with some over-the-top adventures in it. I really look forward to the next book!

okayish
the narrator made it hard to get through, very nonatone and pronunciations were off which made it hard to get into. Magnus was rather unbearable at the start but got a little bit better at the end if the book

Good Concept
The story has a good concept behind it but it sounds as if it was written by a 12 year old. I realize now this must be a book for teens, but it’s hard to take it seriously most of the time.
