Story
The Work is simply four questions that, when applied to a specific problem, enable you to see what is troubling you in an entirely different light. As Katie says, "It's not the problem that causes our suffering; it's our thinking about the problem." Contrary to popular belief, trying to let go of a painful thought never works; instead, once we have done The Work, the thought lets go of us. At that point we can truly love what is, just as it is.

OPRAH’S BOOK CLUB PICK
AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
“A roadmap on the journey to truth and authenticity… [The Way of Integrity] is filled with aha moments and practical exercises that can guide us as we seek enlightenment.”–Oprah Winfrey
Bestselling author, life coach, and sociologist Martha Beck explains why “integrity”—needed now more than ever in these tumultuous times—is the key to a meaningful and joyful life
As Martha Beck says in her book, “Integrity is the cure for psychological suffering. Period.”
In The Way of Integrity, Beck presents a four-stage process that anyone can use to find integrity, and with it, a sense of purpose, emotional healing, and a life free of mental suffering. Much of what plagues us—people pleasing, staying in stale relationships, negative habits—all point to what happens when we are out of touch with what truly makes us feel whole.
Inspired by The Divine Comedy, Beck uses Dante’s classic hero’s journey as a framework to break down the process of attaining personal integrity into small, manageable steps. She shows how to read our internal signals that lead us towards our true path, and to recognize what we actually yearn for versus what our culture sells us.
With techniques tested on hundreds of her clients, Beck brings her expertise as a social scientist, life coach and human being to help readers to uncover what integrity looks like in their own lives. She takes us on a spiritual adventure that not only will change the direction of our lives, but also bring us to a place of genuine happiness.
What the critics say
“Martha Beck is always full of insights. This book didn't disappoint! Beck identifies the ways culture works against integrity and touches on Dante's Inferno, includes quizzes, and rethinks suffering.” (Good Morning America)
“The Way of Integrity is about the redemptive power of discovering, speaking and living the truth about who you are.... The book vibrates with magic, intelligence, and love. It brims with humor, spirituality, fascinating science, and even Dante’s Divine Comedy. This radiant book will not only change your life, but perhaps even save it.” (Elizabeth Gilbert, number one New York Times best-selling author of Eat, Pray, Love)
"Martha Beck’s genius is that her writing is equal parts comforting and challenging. A teacher, a mother, a sage, she holds our hand as she leads us back home to ourselves.” (Glennon Doyle, number one New York Times best-selling author of Untamed)

A very important book ….
Martha translates Dante’s work into accessible concepts making the work both understandable and user friendly. I suspect if Dante and Martha lived in the same era, they would be best of friends , confidants , and peers . They are cut out of the same cloth, an indescribable beautiful cloth .
Ends up , we all are:)
No matter where you are currently located in your Awakening journey , this book will give you the orientation to know where you are and, the practical tools to move forward .
Thank you Dante , thank you Martha ,

Life changing !!! Best self help book EVER!!
This is the best book I’ve ever heard or read in my life. EVER. I’ve read so many self help books and each one helped me along the path. This one stands out at a time when it’s so needed. So refreshingly honest and funny. So delighted that the author herself narrated it. I truly believe ( am I absolutely sure of this? No) that if a majority of humans read this book and actually applied it to their lives, we would find ourselves in an entirely wonderful, loving, empowering world. Truly life changing. Help yourself get out of the inferno of your thoughts.

Amazing all the way through the last word.
I’ve read every book Martha Beck has written and I’m one of her Master Coaches, but this one has gripped my heart. These words were meant for now or anytime the world or someone’s life feels tangled. Weaving Dante’s story with hers, the incredible honesty she shares, the immense love and passion that represent who Martha Beck truly is, shine like a beacon of hope needed now and always. Thank you, Martha. I’m beginning with page one again tomorrow. Can’t wait to live into it and share it with others!

Hard to Follow
In this instance I would almost push for a professional narrator. I found the authors voice a bit distracting and cracky at times.
Stylistically, I found that the writing of this also was very "storyteller like" and generally took more words than needed to get to the point.

Will listen to again!
Really beautiful book that just confirms the teachings of so many others that try to guide us towards enlightenment. Grateful to Martha for sharing her story, and her inspiring words.

Game changer
Have gone and bought the book as well so I can underline, make post-its, do the exercises again. Will also get a copy of the Devine Comedy as a companion read. Beck’s “The Way of Integrity” makes so much sense!
