Thirty-one-year-old Dave Raymond has an adoring girlfriend and a steady gig as guitarist for The Wishbones, a New Jersey wedding band. His marital ambivalence takes a perilous turn when he embarks on an affair with Gretchen, a New York City poet. Dave is torn between Gretchen and his fiance, Julie, and the two sides of his personality they represent.
