Story
Michael J. Sullivan garnered critical raves and a massive readership for his Riyria Revelations series. The first book in his highly anticipated Riyria Chronicles series of prequels, The Crown Tower brings together warrior Hadrian Blackwater with thieving assassin Royce Melborn. The two form a less-than-friendly pairing, but the quest before them has a rare prize indeed, and if they can breach the supposedly impregnable walls of the Crown Tower, their names will be legend.

Gaelan Starfire is a farmer, happy to be a husband and a father; a careful, quiet, simple man. He’s also an immortal, peerless in the arts of war. Over the centuries, he’s worn many faces to hide his gift, but he is a man ill-fit for obscurity and all too often he’s become a hero, his very names passing into legend: Acaelus Thorne, Yric the Black, Hrothan Steelbender, Tal Drakkan, Rebus Nimble.

Story
The truth is neither plain nor simple. Sable, a reluctant thief from the slums, can feel truth when people speak. For years she’s been using that skill to try to break free from the vicious gang boss to whom she's indebted. Escape comes in the form of an odd set of companions: a dwarf running from the past, an actor with a magical, glowing tree, a too-helpful kobold, a playwright with a knack for getting stories out of people, and a man and woman with suspicious, magical powers. But Sable’s freedom is short lived.

Publisher's Summary
Theft of Swords contains The Crown Conspiracy and Avempartha, books 1 and 2 of Riyria Revelations. The Crown Conspiracy is the first book in the captivating Riyria Revelations.
They killed the king. They pinned it on two men. They chose poorly.
There is no ancient evil to defeat, no orphan destined for greatness, just two guys in the wrong place at the wrong time. Royce Melborn, a skilled thief, and his mercenary partner, Hadrian Blackwater, make a profitable living carrying out dangerous assignments for conspiring nobles until they become the unwitting scapegoats in a plot to murder the king. Sentenced to death, they have only one way out...and so begins this tale of treachery and adventure, sword fighting and magic, myth and legend. Avempartha is the second of a six book series entitled the Riyria Revelations.
The secret is in the tower. The problem is the beast. The answer is two thieves.
When a destitute young woman hires Royce and Hadrian to help save her remote village from nocturnal attacks, they are once more drawn into the schemes of the wizard Esrahaddon. While Royce struggles to breech the secrets of an ancient elven tower, Hadrian attempts to rally the villagers to defend themselves against the unseen killer. Once more, what begins with the simple theft of a sword places the two thieves at the center of a firestorm - but this time the outcome could change the future of Elan.

Think of it as a radio show
It takes about a third of the book for the narrator to emphasizing the right tones of the story. The voice actors however are amazing! For those who enjoy a more radio show feel to their audiobook look no further.

Great Voice Acting Ruined By Narrator
I own literally dozens of GraphicAudio titles I bought directly from them over the last 12+ years or so, and have to say that the guy narrating this--Bradley Smith--is by far the worst narrator of one of their titles I ever heard. They had at the time this was produced at least 5 better narrators--one who's since retired. What makes it even worse is this fellow's the director and has several other narrations/directions--he must have dirt on somebody is all I can imagine.
The voice actors are excellent, as is the overall production other than narration, which is almost always what you get with GraphicAudio. Just be aware of Brad Smith narrated titles, and if you avoid them you should be ok.
Still having a hard time believing GraphicAudio let this one be released with this narrator . . .

As good as the original and refreshingly different
I have six hundred and thirty books in my library and only three are dramatized adaptions. I didn’t think that I’d like them as well as I do with a good single narrator; but I was nicely surprised.
This book was an extra bonus because I was able to go back into one of my all time favorite books and enjoy it all over again. It had a different sound and different emphasis in certain scenes due to the sound affects. The dramatization helped keep this version interesting as opposed to hearing the same book twice. The reverb was mixed into the voices a little to much but you’ll get used to it. The characters voices were similar to what I expected which helped also.
I recommend this to anyone, and say that it’s a must for Michael Sullivan fans.

Loved it!
I've already listened to this series before but when I saw that it was available as a graphic audio I thought it would be fun to listen to again and I was right! I've actually listened to every book written about Royce and Hadrian (Ryira, Elvish for two 😉). And I think the voice actors nailed it! The voice of Royce was exactly as I would have imagined him. And Hadrian too. Which I really find to be pretty amazing. I didn't have to warm up to their voices at all, they were just right from chapter one! And these graphic audios really are a movie in your mind. The footsteps of someone running up to another person, the music in the background portraying the mood of the scene, the sounds of weather, the sword battles, all brought to life. I give it 5 stars!

Impressed
I wasn’t sure what to expect with this audiobook. But this is one of my favorite stories and if they did it well then it would be something I would enjoy listening to for a very long time. The audio production is done very well and I enjoyed it very much. Looking forward to listening to more audiobooks produced by Graphic Audio

Sad whole series wasn’t dramatized.
I’m enjoying the story, but the character development is where this work shines. I truly care about what’s next for many of the characters.
Starting next in series now.

One of the best I have listened to!
Awesome book, and great acting with the narration! If you like medieval stories, this is the book for you. Just make sure you download the "dramatized" version to get better narration.

Mediocre
Normally when something is rated 4.7, even if the story isn’t my “thing”, I can at least see why it was highly rated. I don’t get it here. The story is ok. The world building lacks the feel of depth and texture that I need to really become immersed in a fantasy novel. Character building is mediocre. Some of the performers were good, some ok, and some terribly over the top. The narrator left something to be desired. The background music was cheesy & I hated it. I may have liked it had it been well done. I think I’d prefer one or 2 good narrators than the full cast unless there’s the budget to get real quality talent bottom to top. Overall, not great, not terrible. I was expecting more given the high rating.
