Publisher's Summary

Bearded, bad-boy barber Knox prefers to live his life the way he takes his coffee: Alone. Unless you count his basset hound, Waylon.

Knox doesn’t tolerate drama, even when it comes in the form of a stranded, runaway bride.

Naomi wasn’t just running away from her wedding. She was riding to the rescue of her estranged twin, to Knockemout, Virginia, a rough-around-the-edges town where disputes are settled the old-fashioned way....With fists and beer. Usually in that order.

Too bad for Naomi, her evil twin hasn’t changed at all. After helping herself to Naomi’s car and cash, Tina leaves her with something unexpected. The niece Naomi didn’t know she had. Now, she’s stuck in town with no car, no job, no plan, and no home - with an 11-year-old going on 30 to take care of.

There’s a reason Knox doesn’t do complications, or high-maintenance women, especially not the romantic ones. But, since Naomi’s life imploded right in front of him, the least he can do is help her out of her jam. And just as soon as she stops getting into new trouble, he can leave her alone, and get back to his peaceful, solitary life.

At least, that’s the plan, until the trouble turns to real danger.

Dull

I'm not sure why this book got so many good reviews. I'm on chapter 5 and feel like I want to poke out my eyeballs. The story is dull and boring and the female narration is absolutely ABYSMAL. Do not waste your money or credit.

Great ending … back and forth was a bit much

I didn’t think I would like this book as much as I did .
The back and forth between the two mains was a bit much , was kind of cringe at times . The end was great and made it worth listening

Horrible - like a tween wrote it

Terrible, did not like the storyline or the narrator. All the adult characters talk like they’re at a grade seven dance. Interestingly enough, the child character of 11 seems to be the most mature. The storyline is not believable, all these people rally around this ridiculous main character and while she is mistaken for her twin sister she waits until people spin out of control berating her before she clarifies she is not her in fact her sister (add the authors need to express the exasperation for being mistaken yet again) I have listen to hundreds of audiobooks, I am not a reviewer. But this one, I just had to warn you.

I forced myself to listen to the whole thing

It had so many good reviews, that I kept telling myself it had to get better. It didn't. This reminded me of fanfiction/smut that I read for free, online, as a teenager... Even that was better.
Useless information added, that didn't add anything to the storyline. It kept talking about how the main character was put together and polished... Nothing about her character gave that impression. Probably why the story had to repeat it so often.
Also, not a good representation of a relationship. Very unhealthy. He was very pushy with what he wanted. His character was soft and kind to everyone else but not her. What?

Make it stop

I don't usually leave negative reviews but oh my goodness, this book is terrible. The characters are so boring and predictable and it's just hard to listen to. So many great reviews made me think this was going to get better as it went on but IT DOESN'T. If you're hoping not to waste time, don't bother but if you are then give er' a read.

Cringe

The narrators are great but I could barely get through it. A lot of the ideas are recycled - everything from Kristen Ashley to “Overboard”. The main character is annoying, she’s wound very tight and honestly I wouldn’t want to spend 5 minutes with her. As for the guy, every other page he’s described as a Grumpy Viking. Yes, understood, it’s the grumpy neighbor trope. EXCEPT once a month, during “Code Red”, when he brings his female bartenders stick-on heating pads and brownies and calls his female staff the “Synched Sisters”. Because he TRACKS THEIR CYCLES. As for the female staff, they apparently spend this week eating anything not nailed down and sobbing over nothing in the kitchen. The whole “pretend relationship” plot FIRST STARTS around page 250. So get ready for a slow burn. A slow, slow, slow, slow….well, you get the idea. And there was never was a truly legit reason that she fought against just having a normal relationship with Knox. So in conclusion: annoying, cringe, long and confusing. Dog was cute.

Awful

I got half way through and realized this book was nonsense. I did not enjoy listening to the male narrator. Knox is a deplorable character and I was disgusted by the way the author condones objectifying women. I could not listen to this because it was upsetting, to me and I’m not a prude. The Knox character does not fit the traditional rom-com rules, which I’m all for, but I cannot root for someone I find disgusting.

Great story and narration!

Things We Never Got Over introduces us to a small town in Virginia - Knockemout, and it’s eclectic mix of residents. In true Lucy Score fashion, the author masterfully created yet another quirky community that I absolutely adored. Our protagonists, Naomi and Knox, as well as the dynamic cast of secondary characters are sure to immediately capture your heart.

“Sometimes you don’t need a history to see the future”.

The story is mainly enemies to lovers, with a bit of a mistaken identity but most importantly it’s about taking chances and being brave when love comes calling.
This book has all the hallmarks of a perfect romcom - love, swoon, steam, intrigue, grumpy hero and sunshine heroine, meddling, well meaning friends snd guaranteed HEA.
The narration by Sebastian York and Lila Winters is phenomenal, they have a way of bringing you into the story and making you feel like you are an active participant.
I definitely recommend Things We Never Got Over to all romcom enthusiasts!

Wow loved 10/10

When I first started this book I was scared because people said it was slow and foul language. I think the language really reflected the different personalities of the two main characters well. I feel like it was a feel good funny amazing story that I couldn’t get enough of. If you want action, love, spice, and drama this book is def for you!!!

Great story ruined

The story line in this book was great, which was the only reason why I listened all the way through, While I am not a prude, the number and detail of the sex scenes were ridiculous and really took away from the story. You would just be getting into the story and you would be put through detailed descriptions of sex. While one or 2 are ok, 30% of the book was devoted to this junk. I just started fast forwarding through them so I could get back to the story. I will not be listening to any other books by this author.

I allllmost got to the end but will just save like two hours of my life

OTT ridiculousness, and not in a cute/funny/hot way. The storytelling just seemed bad, like the characters had no depth.
The MC Naomi is exactly the kind of MC that I’m constantly rolling my eyes at, especially since she’s 36 but from the ridiculousness of literally everything about her, it makes her seem more like 20.
Save your credit.
Not even Sebastian York’s sinfully sexy voice can redeem this one.

Soooo over this book!

I will never get those 10 hours of my life back.

I’ve powered through good books with bad narrators or poorly written books with great narrators that made it palatable to listen until the end…. But OMG I can’t slog it out any longer. I wanted to cry when I saw that I still had 6 hours left of this drivel. I can’t believe that this has so many 5 star reviews and it comes up on lists for the best books of summer 2022. I don’t know who I blame more- the author who wrote every boooooring detail in this trivial story or the editor who was afraid to use a red pen once on this copy and remove 7 hours of painful writing! There was angst in unnecessary places, hysteria when it seemed really out of place and the romance wasn’t convincing or remotely enjoyable. In fact, the characters were really hard to tolerate. The narrators, who I usually like, didn’t help this story either. If you have even the slightest doubt when listening to the sample, save yourself a credit and move along quickly. It only gets worse.

Horribly written

I couldn’t make it past the first few chapters. A grown woman who wears daisies in her hair and is stupid enough to bail out her loser of a sister, an 11 year old girl named Waylay who couldn’t care less that her mother left her, a man left at the alter who has the same exact name and profile as a character from Legally Blonde, and so many words and phrases that made it sound like an 80 year old backwoods grandmother wrote it. It feels like it was written without any research as to what people are like in today’s world. The narration was just okay.
