Publisher's Summary
Jack Ryan Jr. finds that the scars of war can last a lifetime in the latest entry in Tom Clancy's number-one New York Times best-selling series.
Twenty-six years ago, Dr. Cathy Ryan restored the eyesight of a young Bosnian girl who had been injured during an attack in the Bosnian War. Today, her son, Jack Ryan Jr. has agreed to track down the young woman and deliver a letter from his mother. What he finds shocks them both.
The helpless child has grown into a remarkable woman. Aida Curic is a self-possessed beauty with a big heart and an even bigger secret who runs a controversial refugee agency near Sarajevo. Jack finds himself deeply drawn to both her and her country, but soon finds himself in the crosshairs of the seething ethnic tensions and ancient blood feuds of the Balkans, the region of Europe where empires go to die. If Jack can't navigate the world of secret service agencies, special operators, and local mafias to save Aida, Sarajevo will prove the be the fuse that lights the next world war.

Scott Brick is incredible but the story is weak
I'm not sure if this is the direction that they want to take Jack Jr. but a story with him following his genitals around rather than using his usual intellect is just not in keeping with the general character development over the previous iterations of Clancy books. However, Scott Brick really is the best narrator throughout the entire series and again does a masterful job.

Horrible
#Audible1
I fear that the Tom Clancy universe is on a steady decline. This story was full of plot holes. There are also so many instances where Jack Jr. acted so out of his character that you wonder whether he is in the same universe as the other novels. Too bad Mark Greaney is no longer writing.

Maden pulls off another WOW Jack Jr book!
This is an outstanding addition to the Jack Ryan Jr. series. This is written by Mike Maden. I prefer the books written by Maden and Greaney.
In this book Jack Jr. is being sent to what was formerly Yugoslavia. A company there has hired Hendley's company to handle some financial work for them. Being a financial analyst Jack is the obvious choice.
When Jack's mother hears he's going there she asks him to deliver a letter to a young woman, if he can find her. She had treated her as a child when she was injured in the civil war between Sarajevo and Bosnia.
When he finished his work for Hendley but before going to Sarajevo he is attacked by a woman with a cooler chest filled with dry ice. She also has a bone saw. Jack breaks a few bones and knocks her out. She was a hired killer tasked with getting his head. She's been hired by a powerful group called the Iron Syndicate. They want to start a Third World War.
While in Sarajevo after finding the woman and becoming infatuated with her he learns that the woman sent to kill him has herself been killed.
Wow! The twist and turns in this book come one after another.
The writing is excellent as well as the character development. The plot is intense and extremely fast paced. This kept me listening from the time I started until THE END!!
Scott Brick is one of the absolute best and as expected did a fantastic job narrating.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATIONS.

Suspenseful
It has been sometime since I read any of the Clancy books that have come out after his death. This is book four in the Jack Ryan Jr. series written by Mike Maden. The setting for the book is Bosnia. Maden does a good job describing the countryside and its history. Jack Jr. is on vacation and his mother asks him to find a girl that she had performed eye surgery on during the war.
The writing is average. The plot twists and turns as the suspense builds throughout the story. I feel Maden is being held to the high standard of Clancy. Probably, the story would have been better if it was not compared. The story kept me engaged and I enjoyed the history lesson. If you are looking for an easy to read book, try this one out.
The book is just over twelve hours. Scott Brick does an excellent job narrating the book. Brick is an actor and voice-over artist. He is an award-winning narrator and is known for his “golden voice”.

Worst in a great series
I’ve been reading Clancy’s Ryan novels since Red October first came out. This one was by far the worst. It felt like a spy novel written for the WB. The characters keep making one bad choice after another, I mean they try to kill Jack and he keeps traveling around like nothing is wrong? Seriously? What high level super secret spy organization would allow that.
Even for die hard Clancy fans, which I am one of, I don’t recommend you read this book. The narrator was great as always, but his talent was wasted on this book.

It all a bit weak
The story is weak. I miss the days of the solid Campus stories. Not having Clarke or Chavez is a huge miss. Scott Brick's performance is weak. I can never tell which character is speaking because they all sound the same. As the story progresses, his tone never changes. It feels like he has no attachment to what he is doing.

Meh, it's ok. Most likely won't get a 2nd listen.
This one just didn't do it for me. Story line is weak. Too many off-roads that some kind of candlestine super trooper would of avoided. This is after all the guy who single-handedly invaded UKR and brought down a bunch of troublesome Russkies.
Just don't get this juvenile pursuit of love interest.
Why can't he just answer the cell phone? Or listen to his VM?
And where do the other Campus operatives come into this two-bit drama?
Comedic effect?
I do like the series. Hopefully they keep it up. I can't remember the other Maden book, will have to back and look for it and see if I liked it or not.
Cheers

Could have easily earned 5 stars!
I almost gave up at the half way point on LINE OF SIGHT due to oppressive boredom, but I stuck with it and I'm glad I did. The ending, actually the last two hours, are outstanding, like in 5 star good. This is Mike Maden's second Ryan Jr novel. He is certainly better than Grant Blackwood. Scott Brick narrates superbly.
In her recent review of Target Omega by Peter Kirsanow Audible listener Shelley made very valid negative comments about recent changes in Audible's Listener Page. She also recommended that listeners who agree email complaints to Audible. The two Audible email address I have used in the past for comments and complaints are customersupport and greatideas (at audible.com). From my perspective Audible totally ruined the best and most useful part of their website when they changed their listener page. I made a similar point about the changes in my May 24 review of Terminal Rage by A. M. Khalifa
