About this listen

President-elect Donald J. Trump lays out his professional and personal worldview in this classic work—a firsthand account of the rise of America's foremost deal-maker.

"I like thinking big. I always have. To me it's very simple: If you're going to be thinking anyway, you might as well think big." —Donald J. Trump

Here is Trump in action—how he runs his organization and how he runs his life—as he meets the people he needs to meet, chats with family and friends, clashes with enemies, and challenges conventional thinking. But even a maverick plays by rules, and Trump has formulated time-tested guidelines for success. He isolates the common elements in his greatest accomplishments; he shatters myths; he names names, spells out the zeros, and fully reveals the deal-maker's art. And throughout, Trump talks—really talks—about how he does it. Trump: The Art of the Deal is an unguarded look at the mind of a brilliant entrepreneur—the ultimate read for anyone interested in the man behind the spotlight.

This book was required reading for a clinical Business Law/Commercial Law course at my law school, before Trump was POTUS 45. I learned a lot of good general business insights from listening to this audiobook, and learned more about Trump's family history and personal philosophies/personality. While we may not always see eye-to-eye regarding political matters, Trump is obviously a good businessman who charts his own course and still has to cut through the unnecessary annoying BS noice, which reminds me of the rest of us! You will probably see him in a much different light after hearing more detail on the backstory. An essential item for any entrepreneur, leader, or curious bystander bored of how Trump was vilified by the MSM, social media, overall public sentiment and attitudes. I had never seen anything like it since George W. Bush, who had a historically low approval rating but served most of his term prior to social media becoming much more of a factor in conveying perspectives, opinions, etc. There felt like a 'groupthink' element to the public view/reaction to Trump as President, and those types of movements tend to produce a lower volume of critical perspectives/critique, critical thinking, and analysis of the substantive material. I am less interested in the fact that he was obese, had an orange-coloured skin tone, and played golf a lot (albeit at his own golf courses, which seems like a potential conflict of interest and it is not clear whether he cleared these outings with the ethics commissioner prior to partaking in the activities) than I am on his economic performance, policies, and international relations. I am not sure that the latter received a due amount of public airing, consideration, and thought. Trump is a historically relevant American legend and his celebrity status should be directed in a manner that can best be used to help ensure every hardworking, honest, intelligent, and enterprising individual has the opportunity to succeed in the United States of America, as protecting some of our greatest and most deserving assets would like prove to help reduce inequities/inequality overall, as their actions are smarter, stronger, and more efficient than watered down public efforts that are too weak to have a strong enough of a positive effect on enough people to be able to enable meaningful embracing of these traditional American values,

I felt like I know the man more after reading this book. No wonder he is such a successful President, in spite of the evil forces fighting him every step of the way.

This book is awesome! The Art of the Deal pulls you into Trump’s fast paced world of big deals and sharp thinking. I was blown away by how he tackled New York’s tough real estate scene, turning problems into wins like a pro. You also see how much he cares about people and his family. He’d even take calls from his kids during meetings, showing how important they are to him. It’s super engaging, packed with smart tips, and a must read for anyone aiming to make it big. Inspires you to think bigger! Five stars from me

Big Deals, Big Heart

I avoided reading this book for decades because I assumed it was theory of negotiation, or an arrogant person boasting about how rich he is. It's actually a fascinating story of New York real estate development, with negotiation takeaways as more subtle themes.

The best part is the story of Wollman Rink. Read the Wikipedia entry on this before listening to the chapter in the book. Then extrapolate the Wikipedia bias to all media coverage of the president and you might start rethinking your whole worldview. Or just marvel at that tale of government incompetence, which would be scandalous if it is even half true.

Finally, while it's obviously better when the author reads his own book, in this case the reader does a great job of channeling the Trump personality in fair way, without trying to imitate him.

Despite not being a United States citizen or resident there has always been something about Mr Trump that have fascinated me. After listening to the challenges he has had to endure at the hands of his own government officials and his mindset throughout his life facing situations and difficulties it was imperative that eventually he would be president. Everyone who criticizes President Trump should listen to this audiobook, it's guaranteed to have you rethink what you thought or have ever heard about him.
