Publisher's Summary

Boundaries are the ways we communicate our needs. They are what allow us to feel safe among strangers, in everyday interactions, and in our closest relationships. When we have healthy boundaries, we have a strong foundation in an uncertain world. And when someone crosses your boundaries, or you cross someone else’s, the result range from unsettling to catastrophic.

In this audiobook, best-selling author Dr. Faith Harper offers a full understanding of issues of boundaries and consent, how we can communicate and listen more effectively, and how to survive and move on from situations where our boundaries are violated.

Along the way, you’ll learn when and how to effectively say “no” (and “yes”), troubleshoot conflict, and respect your own and others’ boundaries like a pro. You’ll be amazed at how much these skills improve your relationships with friends, strangers, coworkers, and loved ones.

How Many Fucks?

I understand what's being said, but if you're gonna swear, its just got to sound right. The sprinkling of "fuck" is at times just not flowing with the rest of the words. Perhaps if I was reading it that feeling might be different. I couldn't finish listening to this book.

Weird dichotomy while listening

First the good, well narrated and very clearly spoken so I could listen above 2x speed, that makes a world of difference to me. Easy to listen to in a short time frame, even if you listen at 1x, it's something around a 2.5hr listen I believe. Definitely some helpful information that I could relate to other books I have listened to, with some good ideas on how to deal with people in different settings. The BFIF method seemed like a good way to deal with conflict driven coworkers, and I will likely be putting that to use by next week.

Now in my opinion, I'm not sure if it was actually the authors original writing to using the words "adulting" or "cis gender" or other annoying millennial speak. In my late 30s I maybe a contrarian, but this sounds ridiculous coming from someone with soo many letters after their name. I expected someone who apparently has adult children to call B.S. on this compelled language. Perhaps it was pressure from the publisher or editor, to appeal to a wider audience. Also, it seems clear that the author has a little bit of TDS. Please, leave the politics out of your attempts to help me unfeck my obviously self generated problems, it's an unnecessary distraction on the journey to self improvement.

I would still recommend the book if you read the synopsis and thought it could help you, it probably will. Just want to make sure if you feel like me, you don't get that, "shiiite, is this what I bought with one of my monthly credits??"

Don't worry if you think that, the later chapters rein it back in for what I purchased it to do.

Trying to Cash in; Lacks Knowledge

After the success of The Art of Not Giving a Fuck, a number of similar products have cropped up.
This is one of those products.

The author is severely lacking in psychological foundations and understanding, padding this already-short book out with armchair-psychology and unsubstantiated feminist theory.

Far more "whoah! What's up with this rape culture we live in, dude?!" than useful boundary -setting advice.

An Enjoyable Read, but not the very best

As an INFP-T who gets stomped all over and whose boundaries are violated by her close ones nearly all the time, it’s a no brainer that I chose to start my Audible journey with this gem. It was an enjoyable ‘read’, except that a lady was reading it aloud to me in a crisp and polished voice. I learnt a whole lot , especially regarding effective communication strategies with HCPs, but the most important takeaway was probably the lesson that it is perfectly fine to say NO and assert my boundaries without over-explaining or being needlessly apologetic.
I would highly recommend this book as a starter on the ‘setting boundaries’ topic. It was a good read, perhaps not the best book on the subject, but not bad either.
Highly recommend for those who get pushed around a lot and experience boundary violations with alarming frequency.

Way to much swearing and feelings of hostility

bombarded with continuous swearing and negative tone I couldn’t even finish the story. From what I heard about an hour the information it self was mostly good. I just couldn’t continue with it.

Narrator disconnect

The book itself was good. There was a lot of useful information and helpful suggestions. I found the language used unnecessary (and I’m a fan of colourful language). I was also distracted by the reader’s crisp enunciation of each syllable of said colourful language. It felt false and took away from what was meant to be a relatable writing style.

Awful

I’ve established my boundaries by returning this. Unfortunately the social “sciences” have been captured by people like these.
