Publisher's Summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * SOON TO BE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE FROM WARNER BROTHERS PICTURES * “Reads like Apollo 13 underwater.” —Don Winslow * “Masterful.” —Patricia Cornwell * “A stunningly vivid tour de force!” Gripping. Shocking.” —Brad Thor

Flight attendant turned New York Times bestselling author T. J. Newman’s adrenaline-fueled thriller about a commercial jetliner that crashes into the ocean and sinks to the bottom with passengers trapped inside—and the extraordinary rescue operation to save them.

Six minutes after takeoff, Flight 1421 crashes into the Pacific Ocean. During the evacuation, an engine explodes and the plane is flooded. Those still alive are forced to close the doors—but it’s too late. The plane sinks to the bottom with twelve passengers trapped inside.

More than two hundred feet below the surface, engineer Will Kent and his eleven-year-old daughter Shannon are waist-deep in water and fighting for their lives.

Their only chance at survival is an elite rescue team on the surface led by professional diver Chris Kent—Shannon’s mother and Will’s soon-to-be ex-wife—who must work together with Will to find a way to save their daughter and rescue the passengers from the sealed airplane, which is now teetering on the edge of an undersea cliff.

There’s not much time. There’s even less air.

With devastating emotional power and heart-stopping suspense, Drowning is an unforgettable thriller about a family’s desperate fight to save themselves and the people trapped with them—against impossible odds.

What the critics say

“I found this book, about a plane that crashes in the water, cinematically compelling. I will say that the audio version is greatly enhanced by the vocalizing of Laura Benanti, though most things are. Weber, who also narrated Falling, is totally riveting.” (Marshall Heyman)

Every Bit As Good as Falling!

Wow! Just wow! That book was amazing! If you enjoyed "Falling", you will enjoy this book too! TJ Newman definitely has talent at suspenseful thrillers. Little spoiler here, she managed to keep the suspense going till pretty much the last paragraph! I'm sure the book critics of greater literary ability than I will find some kind of flaws to nitpick, but I didn't see them. The suspense had me frustrated at times, but I 100% do not regret this purchase. Some authors have trouble with their second book being a bit of a flop compared to the first, but that is an affliction from which this author does not suffer. If you are hesitating over purchasing this book, don't! It is absolutely worth the price!

Wow!

I was actually listening on the edge of my seat for most of this audiobook! It reads like a movie, and doesn’t slow down the intense pace until the very end.

Absolutely fantastic!!

I’ve been looking forward to this book ever since I listed to Falling and it did not disappoint! What a great story. Well written, well narrated. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait to see what TJ comes up with next.

Kept me reading to the end

I think it reads like a screenplay and I would watch the movie. We care about the characters, and we're invested in the plot. The narration by both narrators was well done.

not a true story and nonsensical

I seldom submit a review.
this books is fiction, not a true story. the publishers material gives one the impression that it's a real even that happened.
also, the righting at times is very detailed.. like a retelling of past events. but it doesn't make sense...
