About this listen
A weekend getaway in an isolated country house is just what Caitlin needs to fix her relationship with husband Eli....
Her spirits are up as they enter the spacious retreat and cool off in the nearby lake. With Eli's easy-going brother accompanying them - the party was his idea - the barbecue lit and beers cracked open, everything should be set for a perfect evening. But her husband is cold and dismissive, so Caitlin decides to drown her sorrows and heads into the wine cellar. What she finds there will change their lives forever.
No peaceful sojourn from their daily worries, the house will stage an intense battle of wits: violent, claustrophobic, and cruel. The danger the small group are in will put their trust in one another to the ultimate test. The question is, will anyone get out alive?

Story
Whitney had some misgivings when she dropped her increasingly moody teenage daughter, Amelia, off at Lauren’s house. She’d never met the parents, and usually she’d go in, but Amelia clearly wasn’t going to let something so humiliating happen, so instead Whitney waved to her daughter before pulling away from the little house with the roses in front. But when she goes back the next day, an elderly couple answers the door - Amelia and Lauren aren’t there, and this couple swears they never were, that she’s at the wrong house.

Good story
The story was good and entertaining to listen to. However, I found that there was a lot of details, put into unnecessary things. Details are great to get an idea or picture of the atmosphere, atmosphere but, I found there was a lot of grueling details about unnecessary things. Other than that, I enjoyed listening to the story.

Enjoyable Free Listen
Horror & Thriller writer Anna Willett offers a tale about three individuals inadvertently enmeshed in a conflict between two fascinating opponents. The handling of the characters is heavyhanded, the plotting is weak, and the entire scenario is headshakingly implausible.. but the author's experience with horror pacing and imagery shines through. I found myself able to set aside reservations without a great deal of difficulty.
As to presentation: Aussie reader Cat Gould does a marvelous job reading the book. She tends to overenunciate and overact emotional scenes slightly, but her timbre, cadence, pacing, voice-acting, and tone are all otherwise commendable. Gould furthermore reads dialogue delivered through doors from behind a hand.. displaying remarkable dedication to the project. The performance is "above average" overall.
In toto, 'Unwelcome Guests' rates 7.5 stars out of 10. I am pleased to have found it on the 'Plus' menu.. it was a great way to spend a couple of quiet afternoons. When Audible asks for a Credit, however - while it wouldn't be a crazy investment - realize that there are better options available.

Loved it!
This book had me on the edge of the seat. The narrator was really good and I was not expecting the ending at all. I actually had to stop what I was doing to listen because it got that intense.
