From the number-one New York Times best-selling and award-winning author Colleen Hoover comes "A stand-alone romantic thriller that is tragic, creepy, and brilliant!" (Mel Reader Reviews

Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of best-selling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.

Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity's notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn't expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity's recollection of the night their family was forever altered.

Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen's feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife's words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.

Sexy. Twisted. Consuming.

Due to graphic scenes and mature content, this book is recommended for listeners 18+.

Great book - HORRIBLE narration

I read this book a few months ago and couldn't put it down. It's a fantastic read - well written, easy to follow and suspenseful right until the very last line. I never pick up thrillers but this was recommended to me and I'm so glad it was! I saw that the audiobook for Verity was released today so I figured I'd give it a listen while I work away on some boring data entry. I'm not sure which narrator is which but one is much more enjoyable to listen to than the other. The first narrator who narrates the protagonist, Lowen, along with all other character with the exception of Verity was fine to listen to. She isn't the most organic narrator but I wouldn't refuse to listen to more of her work. The second author, however, who narrates Verity's manuscript is the worst narrator I've ever listened to! She sounds like you're listening to Siri read a book to you. It's painstakingly annoying. She has almost no inflection whatsoever and sounds like her parts were sped up. When I slowed her parts down a bit it was slightly more palatable but just barely. It is very disappointing that such a great book is this annoying to listen to.

Pick up the book to read - you won't be disappointed. Please don't judge the book on this narration!

WoW! What a ride!!

Well, listening to this story on audible for my upcoming book club... I think if i was reading it on my own I may not have gone on. A little hard to take at times.. the stupidity of a woman who is obsessed with her man to the point of sacrificing her children for his love... yikes! Get your shit together ladies.. I know it is a fiction but taking this to the limit... It seems to me it does or will have a sequil? Just not sure how to take this...
Overall, i suppose it provoked a lot of emotion so perhaps for that reason alone it is a good read...

Almost a 5 Star book, but sadly not

This is a hard one to rate. I loved the whole book up, and didn’t want to stop listening. If you would have asked me to rate it anytime before the last hour I would have given it 5 ⭐️. However, I was very unsatisfied with the ending. Like really? It could have been great, instead it was like, huh? Ok. I call bs but ok. And I’m sure that was the authors intention, but I didn’t care for that approach. When the story has you drawn in from the beginning you expect to be wowed by the ending. Instead it got a shrug. I guess if you don’t normally listen to suspense you’ll probably be satisfied with it, but being that I like dark and suspenseful I was left wanting. I would still recommend the book however as I said it did keep my attention which is hard. Just don’t get your hopes too high for some huge BELIEVABLE plot twist. I liked the first narrator. I don’t care for the narrator of Verity, but she was a lot less annoying in this one than some of her others. She was tolerable.

intriguing but skip if triggered by child abuse

I really liked this book and it is only my 2nd from this author. It seemed predictable at times and other times made me want to throw up from the child abuse. I did not see the end coming which puts a different perspective on the whole story but it was hard to keep going during some of the parts because I just can't take stories with children being harmed in them. I'm glad I did stick it out and the narrator's were fantastic but I will not be reading this again. I recommend this book to thrill junkies but not to anyone who is sensitive to child violent situations, either emotionally or physically.

4 Stars but I wish It wasn't 6 months late

I need to start by saying that authors who release audiobooks 6 months after the eBook are doing a huge disservice to the audiobook fans. With 6 months of waiting and all the hype about how crazy this book was I had VERY high expectation and I'll be honest I was left underwhelmed. If I had listened when it released and hadn't had 6 months of hype, I know I would have LOVED this book. I truly hope since this author is going completely Indie now that she will do some research on how all the other hundreds of Indie Author do simultaneous releases so us Audiobook people aren't missing out on the excitement and twists that she loves to give us in her amazing work.

Now Verity.... I really enjoyed the writing style of this story. Loved that it was dual POV so we got both "sides" of the story and I loved the characters, Colleen did an amazing job at making me hate Verity. I've listened to everything written by Coho and I love that she is dipping into other Genres. Throughout this entire book I was waiting for the twist, I knew what I thought and I was 1/2 right but the explanation was the surprise for me.

The narration was good. Vanessa Johansson is new to me and at first I wasn't sure out her voice but she was perfect for Lowen. Amy Landon isn't a favorite of mine normally but I think it's more about casting then her work and she was cast perfectly as Verity!

Nah

The narrators did a good job, so I’d recommend the audio.

I really didn’t like most of this story. The characters are flat and the emotion is missing from the story. The story didn’t bring me in, it all felt basic. I did finish it, so there’s that. It must’ve been interesting enough. Feels like a Gone Girl wannabe; which I hated, so you may like this if you liked that. It’s not the same premise; it just has that same type of feeling.

I hate the whole story within a story scenario. The female lead is an author who is tasked with finishing a comatose woman’s book series, so she stays at the woman’s house to look in her office for info and finds a biography the comatose woman was writing. It features really horrible things. The female lead is attracted to the woman’s husband and there’s something really weird going on at the house.

All the characters suck. They all are just miserable characters and the twist did nothing to change that.

Spoiler!

The heroine sleeping with the husband and putting her teeth marks on the bedpost where the comatose wife did when she was having sex with her husband was just gross. Why is she getting hot thinking of him banging his wife? I never get that in books. Also, I really didn’t need to read about the sex scenes between the male lead and his comatose wife when the female lead and him are making eyes at each other. There’s so many sex scenes in the comatose woman’s bio about the husband and her having sex; very detailed scenes. All of it was just gross.

Overall, this lacked any connection with me. I do like some of Hoover’s books, so I’ll continue to check her books out. I just need to watch the reviews because there are some readers that can’t be objective since they love Hoover so much, so I’ll keep an eye on the lower reviews before reading the next book of hers. This wasn’t horrible, just disappointing.

This was absolutely impossible to press pause on. It drew me in right from the first minute until the last second. This is my first book by this author, but I am definitely looking into more soon.

Other reviews totally oversold it!

is Audible paying reviewers now? Who are you people and why did you love this book???

I wasn’t awed. I wasn’t surprised. There were no surprising plot twists. Lastly, I am certainly NOT going to spend any time thinking about this book now that I’ve finished listening to it.

It’s nice everyone else found it riveting. I found it pedestrian, if not downright predictable.

A dissatisfy bummer of an audio book.

Okay - lost me at the end

I was both thrilled and horrified by the majority of the book and would have rated it higher for the extreme villain character and storyline, but the author lost me with the ending.

what did I just read?

Just poor writing. I wanted to love it. I had to read it full through to see what the hype was, but damn. Just a weird, sick, poorly written mess.
