Publisher's Summary

A number-one best seller in several categories with over 14,000 five-star ratings on Goodreads.

From the number-one New York Times best-selling and award-winning author Colleen Hoover comes "A stand-alone romantic thriller that is tragic, creepy, and brilliant!" (Mel Reader Reviews)

Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of best-selling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.

Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity's notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn't expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity's recollection of the night their family was forever altered.

Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen's feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife's words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.

Sexy. Twisted. Consuming.

Due to graphic scenes and mature content, this book is recommended for listeners 18+.

Editorial Review

An all-consuming romantic thriller that will leave you guessing, gasping, and utterly engrossed, Verity tests the bounds of what humans are capable of and brings to light just how dark those limits can be.

New York Times best-selling author Colleen Hoover delivers a richly layered, utterly engrossing story with Verity. An expert at romance novels, Hoover infuses this tale with twist after plot twist for a dark psychological thriller combined with a hot and spicy love story. When famous author Verity Crawford is badly injured, her husband Jeremy Crawford hires Lowen Ashleigh to continue the author’s work. Lowen is elated at this offer of a dream job, but as soon as she begins searching through Verity’s notes, she finds herself in the middle of a nightmare. What she discovers is chilling, but her burgeoning connection with Jeremy is anything but, and she still has a series of books to complete.

Verity takes a striking step beyond standard romance fare, shocking listeners with its bold humanity and chilling side. Listeners will struggle to hit pause, spending every moment aching to know what happens next, before diving back into this story, as full of love as deception, lust, and betrayal.

This standalone audiobook is as devastatingly dark as it is addictive, and as sexy as it is suspenseful. Narrators Vanessa Johansson and Amy Landon offer their fittingly dramatic and electrifying voices to this unpausable thriller. Landon has narrated more than 300 titles and podcasts, while Johansson carries over 60, and both have won awards for their work. Together they bring just the right level of tension and emotion to their nuanced and engaging performance of Verity.

Entertaining enough

This book is fine if you go into it not needing things to make perfect sense. A lot of what happened and especially the twist at the end I found totally unrealistic and unbelievable, but I don’t think I need every book to be believable so I guess that’s fine. It’s good if you want to read it with a friend and yell about it after.

Didn’t live up to the hype

From all the buzz I have heard about this book I would have thought it was life-altering. It wasn’t a bad book but it definitely didn’t live up to the hype. I didn’t connect to any of the characters and I found the big reveal at the end to be mediocre.

Amazing amazing amazing

I LOVED THIS NOVEL! This is my favourite book of all time, I read “The Silent Patient” and googled good reads, and stumbled upon this. I am so happy I did, because it makes me want to start listening to Audio books all the time, if they’re this good! This is a page turning and a book that makes you never want to stop reading - I sometimes find books trail off and I get bored - but this book was all in all worth the listen!! When I finish typing this, I’m using another credit to get another book by Colleen! Long story short - get this audiobook!

A psychotic erotica inside a thriller. Depends what you like to read.

It has a couple creepy parts that make you want to not listen to it right before bed. I’m glad I finished it to find out the whole story, as it has a couple turns in it. But it was a slog to get through Verity’s chapters. The sex was so unnecessarily graphic, and constant to the point it felt more like erotica camouflaged as a thriller. The villain motivations also did not feel realistic whatsoever to me, making the erotica parts just feel like they had even less substance and relevance to the main story. This all does sort of wrap up in a (somewhat) interesting way in the end, but not enough to disregard how much of a detractor it was, to me anyway.
I hated listening to Verity’s chapters, one because they were all super NSFW, between the gratuitous graphic sex scenes and disturbing psychotic content, and two because the narrator had a tendency to read every line in the same rhythm and cadence that after a while it felt like listening to the same line of the same song on repeat. Drove me absolutely nuts.
This book is for you if:
-you like a lot of sex scenes
-you like suspense and thrillers about families
-you are not triggered by descriptions of abuse
-you don’t get hung up on narrator’s voices

Weird in a good way

I loved the twists. It was a good book, some parts were slightly disturbing but it makes sense in the end.

Trigger Warnigs Below

I need to start by saying: I knew nothing, I mean nothing a out this book before I started listening. I had heard all about it on Booktok and Instagram, but not what the book was about...just that it was popular.

So, to anyone reading this...please take this as your warning...because this book should come with warnings!! Child abuse, lying, death, murder and so much more!! Be warned before you press play/start reading.

This book is all about a woman that should not have been a mother...a deranged woman that goes to extremes to get her husband back after they became parents.

The Chapters from the memoir made me sick and I had to press pause a few times during those...I still can't believe what Colleen wrote.

The other chapters from Loen's point of view were a good break and vantage point. Believe me when I say, you'll need those pages!!

And then those last 2 chapters.. The Letter and final chapter....I was in disbelief and am still shaking my head. WTF?!

Well played Colleen..well played!!

With all that, this book is everything people said it was....absolutely breath taking and incredible!!
