About this listen

AS HEARD ON THE DIARY OF A CEO PODCAST

Calorie information is ubiquitous. On packaged food, restaurant menus and online recipes, we see authoritative numbers that tell us the calorie count of what we're about to consume. And we treat these numbers as gospel; counting, cutting, intermittently consuming and, if you believe some 'experts' out there, magically making them disappear. We all know, and governments advise, that losing weight is just a matter of burning more calories than we consume.

Here's the thing, however, that most people have no idea about. All of the calorie counts that you see everywhere today, are wrong.

In Why Calories Don't Count, Dr Giles Yeo, obesity researcher at Cambridge University, challenges the conventional model and demonstrates that all calories are not created equal. He addresses why popular diets succeed, at least in the short term, and why they ultimately fail, and what your environment has to do with your bodyweight.

Once you understand that calories don't count, you can begin to make different decisions about how you choose to eat, learning what you really need to be counting instead. Practical, science-based and full of illuminating anecdotes, this is the most entertaining dietary advice you'll ever come across.

The overall tone of the book was fantastic, specifically Giles Yeo’s obvious enjoyment of his subject matter. It is this enjoyment that allowed the facts and ideas to play out seemingly naturally inside of a well written book that felt more like a friendly dialogue than what it actually was; a thoroughly well researched and written exposition of calories and health.
The personal asides, and the recipes mix well with the glimpses into the history of calories, and health fads. Well read and well done!

Science based writing with a great heart.

It can border on bio-chem textbook level information overflow, but excellently explained, entertaining, and critically important to all manner of diets, fads and social structures in our current times. highly recommended for grounded, factual approaches to food, eating, and health.

Crucial Science-based Guide

Let me condense this book. even though this title has way too much math in audio, especially the first 3 chapters, all it's s saying is that the nutrition value of the calorie counts more than number of calories. I felt like I was in a boring lecture. This author is much more interesting, and intriguing in a few minutes FB clip.

Too clinical
