Story
Reese Witherspoon’s grandmother Dorothea always said a combination of beauty and strength made Southern women “whiskey in a teacup”. We may be delicate and ornamental on the outside, she said, but inside, we’re strong and fiery. Reese’s Southern heritage informs her whole life, and she loves sharing the joys of Southern living with practically everyone she meets. She takes the South wherever she goes with bluegrass, big holiday parties, and plenty of Dorothea’s fried chicken.

The first story Selma Blair Beitner ever heard about herself is that she was a mean, mean baby. With her mouth pulled in a perpetual snarl and a head so furry it had to be rubbed to make way for her forehead, Selma spent years living up to her terrible reputation: biting her sisters, lying spontaneously, getting drunk from Passover wine at the age of seven, and behaving dramatically so that she would be the center of attention. In a memoir that is as wildly funny as it is emotionally shattering, Blair tells the captivating story of growing up and finding her truth.

Publisher's Summary
Award-winning actress Drew Barrymore shares funny, insightful, and profound stories from her past and present told from the place of happiness she's achieved today.
Wildflower is a portrait of Drew's life in stories as she looks back on the adventures, challenges, and incredible experiences of her earlier years. It includes tales of living on her own at 14 (and how laundry may have saved her life), getting stuck in a gas station overhang on a cross-country road trip, saying good-bye to her father in a way only he could have understood, and many more adventures and lessons that have led her to the successful, happy, and healthy place she is today. It is the first book Drew has written about her life since the age of 14.
What the critics say
"Pure delight... If until now you merely liked Barrymore...you’ll adore her once you read this series of personal essays.” (New York Times Book Review)
"[Barrymore] brings honesty, sweetness, and humor to the tale of how she fought to earn the hard-won wisdom that steered her from being a 12-year-old former child star to becoming a beloved actor…a warm and inviting narrative.” (Publishers Weekly)
"Heartwarming. Fans of the actress, her production company, makeup line, or girl-next-door demeanor, or anyone looking for a companion in book form, will enjoy." (Library Journal)

Interesting
I struggled to finish this book. The story was nice; however, I got stuck after the author explained a woman who sounded awful by saying she was overweight and wore "drug store makeup", implying that people like this woman, who was likely working where they were just to make ends meet, are "less than", "gross" or are "trashy". IMO, that's just a person passing judgement on another person based on their appearance, the job they had and the area they were in. After that, I just heard a judgemental author who came across as snobby towards the billions of people who are not movie stars and who are not wealthy.... the people who can only afford "drugstore" makeup (if that). #Audible1

An easy listen
Drew states herself at the beginning of the book that she is not a writer and that this book jumps around a lot. This is true and sometimes can get a bit confusing but not a big deal since there isn't a detailed storyline to follow. I have always liked Drew Barrymore so it was interesting to hear these stories from her perspective. One thing I didn't like about this book is sometimes when she is re-telling a story she YELLS into the microphone! I had to turn the volume way down a bunch of times.

Yikes. I used to LOVE her until this podcast.
Why is she yelling all the time. It got significantly more irritating as the book went along. I used to worship Drew but hearing her talk about dressing modestly, etc made me sick as it sounded like it was a negative thing if you don’t. Not cool.

If you want to keep your hearing and not die of fright, be warned she screams alot!!!
I’ve listened to countless celebrity audibles, some stood out to me more then others. I would almost always give a 5 star, on a rare occasion a 4 star, in the case of Drew’s book it merited a solid 2!
There was no story line, it jumped all over the place and the stories she did share were boring and less then entertaining to say the least. I kept telling myself it must get better, keep listening but unfortunately it didn’t and each story was less engaging then the last. While recounting many events she would often scream which I found incredibly irritating. I wish she had offered more genuine personal stories!

Poor Sound Engineer
Of everyone in Hollywood, I was the most excited to hear her stories. She really chose not to take this opportunity to connect with a massive audience and give a lot of people the chance to relate to her. It seems she was attempting to very carefully invent herself anew, but she was unsuccessful. The amount of sudden yelling and screaming was appalling. She seems volatile and really unpleasant. I went from being a lifelong fan to maintaining a deep dislike for her that will not go away. I truly wish I'd never listened to this book. I am writing this review two years after finishing the book. I still feel this way, it left such a bad impression.

I could live without all the screaming
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would not, Drew is very fond of screaming and does it A L-O-T. It may well put you off finishing the book at all. Also the books jumps time periods making its a little scatterbrained and hard to follow.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Drew
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Constant, infuriating screams. I wish I had read this instead of suffering through the screaming.
What else would you have wanted to know about Drew Barrymore’s life?
No really
Any additional comments?
Someone needs to edit this and REMOVE the screaming. It is NOT funny, it is NOT charming and it adds NOTHING to the book.

Couldn't get past the shrieking
Would you try another book from Drew Barrymore and/or Drew Barrymore?
Only if she didn't narrate the book herself.
Would you be willing to try another one of Drew Barrymore’s performances?
No.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I really wanted to love this book. The stories were pretty interesting, but I had to stop listening because of Drew's narration. I found myself wincing in the car at 6:00am...this is not how I want to start my day.
Any additional comments?
I will probably get the Kindle version of the book so I can finish the stories. But listening to the rest of it is out of the question.

Abysmal
This is the poorest example of a memoir I have encountered in the audio book realm. Most recollections are vacuous, boring and extremely general, as in Drew doesn't want to share much about her life but she does want the book advance. It's so boring you could easily drift off. Fortunately Drew prevents this by randomly shrieking, yelling and whooping throughout the book. It's annoying, unpleasant and very loud.
Bottom line: Total disappointment.

Pure joy!
I loved it so much that I hated for it to end! What a wonderful soul and I'm so happy that Drew read it to us! Please write more!!!!

Endearing!!
I have always loved drew barrymore and I have always felt, without, knowing her or meeting her, that we were kindred spirits. This book was such an endearing insight to her life and inspiration. I Love that this wasn't just an autobiography but she really did give lessons that she learned throughout her hard life. After hearing this book it's inspired me to go ahead and pursue all the things that I wanted to in life. Time to take some risks !

Narrate every book
I adore Drew, her story, and her story telling. I can listen to this 10000 times over.
