Publisher's Summary

For fans of Lee Child, Robert Ludlum and Stieg Larsson, comes the exhilarating fourth instalment of the Winter series, winner of Audible’s Thriller of the Year 2019.

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster....

Firestorm is down - the assassin for hire website that had the world by its throat, gone. Alek Konstantin, king of the underworld, is in hiding. But while the world celebrates, Winter is bracing for what must surely follow.

All the world’s cut-throats, assassins and thugs are unemployed, roaming the globe without a leader - and nature abhors a vacuum.

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken....

Something’s not right, and it’s not only that Winter’s body is in pieces. A boy held captive. An attempted assassination. Thirty men gunned down in rural South Wales. What sinister hand is directing these events, and to what end?

GCHQ is a place of secrets, and they follow Winter everywhere. There is so much she must conceal, and Control is keeping something from her, something vital about her past.

As she crashes towards the ultimate showdown, Winter faces the hardest decision of her life - and she must ask herself the question - whose side is she really on?

If you thought it can't get better, you were wrong

Callister’s latest installment in the Winter series keeps the action, surprises, thrills, and heart pounding suspense at a frenetic pace. Without telegraphing while staying true to the symbolism, messages and hints from previous books, Callister manages to guide the reader to grow with Winter. You feel her pain, her confusion, her unhappiness, and are just as surprised as her with the outcome.

The gritty writing combined with thematic aural and visual repetition, the ongoing arrogance of man, and the introduction of two new characters deepen the complexity of the title character but simultaneously give Audible an amazing opportunity to capitalize on a spin-off series…if Callister and Audible are up to the challenge!

Whether they are or not, does not really matter though. As previously stated by other readers, this series, if handled well, could easily become a game, a tv series, a movie, an assigned educational book, almost anything. Yes, I did say an educational book! Lord of the Flies has nothing on some of the themes of personal morality, ethics, societal pressures, power, patriarchy, first impressions, etc., that Callister relentlessly tattoos into our minds without blatantly preaching, and even more slyly, by replicating pressure filled situations that show each of us how we can so easily betray what we might believe in and fall suspect to stereotypical thinking. This also allows Callister to land some resounding surprises with the THUD THUD THUD of a helicopter blade slicing through your mind as you groan and think to yourself…omg how did I not see that coming?

By the time I finished the book every muscle in my body was screaming. I realized I had been clenching my fists, holding my breath, teetering on the edge of excitement ready to fall into that black, black abyss along with Winter. The ending was explosive and for once, I was not angry I have to wait for the next book in the series, instead I felt thankful I had a moment for my heart to return to a natural pattern…then my impatience set in! Callister has created a world with a series of characters that defy pigeonholing, each with flaws and strengths, good and bad, falling for or fighting against the patriarchal, and particularly in this book, colonial ways our lives are manipulated in real life.

My final words on the series thus far…brilliantly intoxicating.

Thoroughly enjoy this series. Now listening to book 5. Each book had me wishing for the next in this series. Great characters. Would like to see an additional narrator for the male roles. Ell Potter is excellent. Thank you

A good ending to a good series.

It starts out a bit slow, but stick it out. It's worth it. A solid ending to the series. I hope we see more of Winter somehow some way.

This was a very interesting series but I think book three could be skipped completely.

Is a movie going to happen?

There is plenty of room for another book. The newest adventures can start anytime! Fully satisfying, ties up loose ends. If it has to end now, Okay. But we want more.

Great books that need to be made into movies

I received the first book, Winter Dark, as an included title from Audible, and I am so glad that I downloaded it. Tight, writing, great characters, and a strong, sexy, confident woman as the lead! A new James Bond for the 21st century.

The latest book in the series not only doesn't disappoint, it takes Winter to new places. Being physically, and emotionally damaged, and still in recovery, we get to see how she handles the toughest situations when not at her peak. The new characters, and the way Winter allows others in to her circle to help her was excellent. Also enjoyed finding out more about her past, and the things that shaped her.

Looking forward to the next in the series, and while this one left off at a point of continuation, I would also like to see some Winter stories that don't have to follow a serialized order.

As for the narration, I love Ell Potter's work in all of the books, and this one is no exception.

My LOVE for Winter is real!!!!

I didn't think that I would enjoy this book more than the earlier ones but I WRONG! Every thing that Winter does is excited, unexpected and kick ass!! I realize that this book just came out but I can't wait for the next one.
