Publisher's Summary
When an idea occurs to you, it means that an entire constellation of ideas, of which that one idea is merely the conscious representative, is active in your mind. If you write that idea down the moment it occurs to you, each of the links in the corresponding idea-constellation will occur to you as you are writing, the resulting being a significant piece of writing.
If, on the other hand, there is a delay between the time that a given idea occurs to you and the time when you commit it paper, the corresponding idea-constellation is likely to 'cool off', so that when you write that idea down, the corresponding idea-network does not occur to you, the result being a piece of writing that contains a single, undeveloped conceit and that is therefore without significance.
