Publisher's Summary

This is the story of Michael Talbot, his family, and his friends: a band of ordinary people trying to get by in extraordinary times. When disaster strikes, Mike, a self-proclaimed survivalist, does his best to ensure the safety and security of those he cares for. Book One of the Zombie Fallout Trilogy follows our lead character at his self-deprecating, sarcastic best. What he encounters along the way leads him down a long dark road, always skirting the edge of insanity.

Can he keep his family safe? Can he discover the secret behind Tommy's powers? Can he save anyone from the zombie queen? Encircled in a seemingly safe haven called Little Turtle, Mike and his family, together with the remnants of a tattered community, must fight against a relentless, ruthless, unstoppable force. This last bastion of civilization has made its final stand. God help them all.

This is a new and updated edition of the previously published title, which originally released on Audible in 2012. This new production features the author's most updated language and revisions, aligning with the most recent edition of the eBook.

Get it!

I can't believe I've been sleeping on this series for years! finally pulled the trigger on book 0 and will be getting the entire series. Characters are actually unique, not just your typical cookie cutter prepper marine surviving the zombie apocalypse, give it a listen!

More Than Passable Sarcasm-Laced Zombie Fiction

Mark Tufo offers often laugh-out-loud cinematic action - following ex-Marine/doomsday prepper Michael Talbot trying to preserve his family & friends by fighting hordes of murderous undead. The "save family" & "reluctantly kill infected neighbors" scenarios are unoriginal but plotted capably, the descriptions are vivid (although the focus on horrible smells & "she would have been gorgeous if she wasn't dead" horny near-necrophilic sentiments are overdone), and the MAGA-Dream unswervingly "ethical" Mike Talbot character - collecting and fetishizing dozens of guns, turning down a chance to cheat on his bitchy wife, actively planning to sacrifice himself for family, vigilante-killing a serial rapist - is hilariously irreverant & sardonic (albeit somehow unlikeable). Factoring in Tufo's occasionally annoying non-linear storytelling style yields a "satisfactory" ZA tale.

Sean Runnette's narration is similarly "effective while imperfect". His diction, timbre, cadence, and tone are unimpeachable - but paired with an occasionally subpar voice-acting repertoire ("Aaaargh.. HELP ME!!" should be delivered with more emotion than what Runnette can muster).

Altogether, 'Zombie Fallout' merits 8 stars out of 10. Don't expect anything that you haven't heard before.. but if you're willing to just enjoy the ride, this book is entertaining. Even for a Credit, it would be a fun distraction (I am quite happy that I was able to get it as a 'Plus' selection - and downloaded the next book in the series by the time I had finished Chapter Four).

[Note: Yes, the endless juvenile stinky poop jokes/references are eyeroll-worthy. Lines like "I thought Carl had let one rip, but unless he had eaten some rotten fish tacos last night, it was a zombie..", however, had my fellow bus-riders looking at me funny - wondering why I was howling with laughter]

quite the adventure

So I gave this a go while exploring the plus library, just as something to fill the void while waiting for my next credit with no expectations and actually enjoyed the story, so went back to book zero and became hooked! I have just finished book 16 and thoroughly enjoyed the adventures of the Talbot clan and friends, I was sad to reach the end after investing so many hours into their journey and going through the losses and new friends etc and look forward to carrying on to the next chapters with book 17 and beyond.

ZF is a great listen with great humor and well narrated, the start of a brilliant adventure of an every day man, doing everything he can for the ones he loves, through the worst of humanities' experiments that are driven by the upper echelons of society and their lust for ultimate power. The end keeps you wanting to know how Mike and company are going to get out of their predicament and each installment leaves you wanting more and excited to see what happens next. mark tufo has created an awesome reality and having SR narrate through this journey was a great choice too as he helps bring it all to life.

mark tufo had made another fan here and I look forward to getting into his other adventures too. I really hope the adventures of Talbot and company come to TV as the story over the series is more than worthy of a TV series

Generic zombie stuff.

It's a generic zombie series. I had expectations for this book but I am definitely pleased. I do love how the character adores his dog. That is something relatable for me which makes me want to continue reading more. There's some psychic stuff going on too in the book which shocked me a bit but hey anything's plausible in this world.

Tremendous fun

It is silly, but tremendously fun book. I have kids, a bossy wife and have owned a bulldog, so I could relate to everything. Don’t let the low budget cover fool you as it did with me for over a year. It is worth your while!

Quite interesting

Good story. Interesting throughout.
Could use a little more research.
No such rank in the RCMP as captain or deputy. Also the RCMP don’t do searches At the border unless called by Canadian Border Services officer after an arrest is made.

I love zombies

This is a great zombies series and it's free! There's a prequel to this book, I would start there, but it's not necessary at all. I like the characters and I feel like they're throwing a little Stephen King spirituality from The stand.

I haven’t laughed this hard in years!!

I haven’t laughed this hard in year’s!
I’m not kidding, I had a few people peer around my office door wondering if I had finally lost my marbles…. After the year we have all had (the Couff) it’s understandable as I expected to lose my ‘fecal matter’ a few months back… but here I am tears streaming down my face loving the off-kilter adventures of Mike Talbot trying to keep his family alive in a world full of Zombies!

I’m not going to spoil the book with giving you a rundown of Mike’s epic adventure but rather say if you need a pick me up after a humdinger of a year buy this audiobook!

Sean Runnette is Perfect for this Series

I loved this book. Sean Runnette made all the quips and sarcasm flow so naturally. Well done!

Too often with the low-hanging fruit quips

Fun to listen to, however there are so many one-liners, and ones that are re-used SO MANY TIMES.

Dude, you made a joke about kissing a man because you’re so happy. I laughed the first time. The next 35 times you made the same joke just took me out of the story.

Impotence joke reused about 15 times.

Ass puckering up joke used about 10 times.

We get it, you’re “funny”.

It’s a zombie story. Your attempts at humour are juvenile and detract from the story.
