一度もしゃべったところを見た事のない渡し船を操縦する若い男、町の高級レストランでＮが昔、プロポーズしたという、バイオリンが上手でまぶたがきれいだった女性。Ｎは私のまぶたも同じように美しく完璧だといい、私に弾けないバイオリンを弾かせ、その女性が戻ってきたかのような錯覚を愉しむのだった。そうして、Nを知るにつれ、私のすべてが彼に委ねられていく・・・。
ところが、私がいつも帰る桟橋で、見送りに来たNの状況は暗転する。「誘拐なんかじゃない、Ｎはただ、あんなにも郵便為替を待っていただけなのに！」――その日、船から降りてきたのは、いつもの郵便配達人ではなかった。（C）wis
