  • 177: Laura was pregnant with twins
    May 17 2024
Our story today has to do with making decisions. As a child, most of the time, life is pretty easy because you don’t have to make any decisions. Everything in your life is decided for you – what clothes you wear each day, where you sleep, what you eat, everything. But as an adult, all of that changes. You take on responsibilities, and you have to make decisions. What to do for work, who you want to spend the rest of your life with (if anyone), which house to buy – it seems like we spend much of our life trying to make the right choices. And sometimes, that can be really difficult. My guest today is Laura. She and her husband, Dan, were parents to their little boy, Louie. Then, they found out they were pregnant again – this time, with twins. And Laura was soon faced with making a decision that she never would have imagined having to make. Content warning: this episode includes discussion of pregnancy and loss. Listener discretion is advised. • 176: Max partnered with Mark Cuban
    May 10 2024
Not too long ago, I went on Hulu, and I found the TV show Shark Tank, and I went all the way back and watched every episode starting at Season 1. I’ve always had that entrepreneurial spirit, wanting to start businesses and make money by working for myself. And that’s what I’ve pretty much done – I’ve been self-employed for more than 20 years. And now, I’m self-employed as a podcaster. But one thing I’ve never done – I’ve never been on Shark Tank. But Max has – and he did it as a teenager. Max told me the whole story of the product he developed, and how he pitched it on TV and ended up getting a deal with Mark Cuban. This is a Flashback episode. Max originally told this story here on the podcast, back on episode 18. So after he tells about his adventures on Shark Tank, you’ll hear a new conversation I had with Max recently, about what he’s up to today. Surprise – he’s started a new company. • 175: Mike wears an ostomy pouch
    May 3 2024
How would you handle it if you ended up having a medical condition that suddenly made you different from everyone else, in the most embarrassing way possible? That’s what happened to Mike. Today you’ll hear about when Mike got the news from his doctor – sorry, you won’t be able to poop the normal way any more. From now on, for the rest of your life, you’ll use a bag, actually called a pouch, and you’re gonna poop directly from your stomach into that. And when Mike got that news, he was just a kid – not even a teenager yet. So today, Mike’s gonna tell us what that was like, and how he handled it, and what it’s like today, as an adult with an ostomy. I asked Mike all the questions that normally you’d never be comfortable asking someone in this situation. This conversation with Mike is so real. That’s what we do here – real life. You’ll hear it all, because Mike is open to talking about everything. And you know what else he is? He’s happy and he loves life. Because he wants people to know – if you get the diagnosis he got, it’s not the end of the world.
