"Les habits neufs de l'empereur" est un conte d'Hans Christian Andersen, paru la même année que "La petite sirène", en 1837, et sans doute inspiré d'une histoire espagnole. Un roi vaniteux, n'aimant rien plus que les beaux habits, se voit promettre une étoffe à nulle autre pareille par deux escrocs. Lorsque ceux-ci la lui présentent, il ne voit rien, tout simplement parce qu'il n'y a pas d'étoffe ; mais il se tait car il ne veut pas passer pour un sot. Une chose en entraîne une autre, et lorsqu'il se retrouve à parader avec ses nouveaux habits, le peuple interloqué reste bouche bée.

The Little Mermaid, as adapted by Hans Christian Andersen, is a long tale with a complex plot which was first published in 1836. It tells the story of a young mermaid who ascends to the surface on her 15th birthday, as is the custom. She happens upon a ship in the throes of a storm, and saves the life of a prince who was about to drown. She falls in love with him, vows to find him again and to love him forever. There are, however, different rules and fates that separate mermaids from people, and the little mermaid undergoes many trials because of the choice she made.

Ewan McGregor reads "The Little Match Girl", a story about a poor little girl who is sent by her parents to sell matches in the street. It is Christmas Eve and it is very cold, but she dares not return home empty-handed. Instead, to try and warm herself ups bit, she lights match after match, and the glow of each reveals an extraordinary, but ephemeral, vision. Ewan McGregor is a Scottish actor, most famous his roles in "Trainspotting", "Moulin Rouge!" and the "Star Wars" franchise.

Magnifiquement écrit par Hans Christian Andersen, "La petite sirène" est sans doutes son conte le plus émouvant. On y découvre ainsi une histoire d'amour tragique dans laquelle cette petite créature des mers tombe amoureuse d'un humain, un amour qui la conduira à de terribles sacrifices.

Cette compilation d'histoires courtes pour enfants commence par les trente plus belles fables de Charles Perrault. Sur le principe de La Fontaine, il évoque une série de scènes morales et inspirantes, entre animaux anthropomorphes et situations propices à développer l'imagination et le plaisir littéraire.
