The Apostle Paul is one of the prominent authors of the New Testament, with 13 of its 27 chapters being letters written by him to churches throughout the world. These letters are foundational to many Christian denominations, as they are instructional for how groups of Christians ought to believe and behave. In addition to being instructional, the letters of Paul are a fascinating look at the ethics and ideals of early organized Christian religious sects.

Award-winning voice actor Diane Havens reads the final book of the New Testament, in the language of the King James Version, the imagery is powerful and poetic. Authorship is attributed to John, referred to as St. John the Divine, who is a prisoner on the island of Patmos when Jesus reveals to him a vision of the future, of the end of days, thus "Revelation" possibly one of the most important books of the New Testament, prophesying the return of Jesus and bringing judgment to all on earth.

The five books of Moses are referred to as the Pentateuch, and encompasses the first five books of the Old Testament: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. After finding out that the Corinthian church was filled with pride and committing sexual immorality, Paul teaches believers about the dangers of abusing freedom. The real problem is that the believers have a misunderstanding of grace. The Corinthian church was basing its faith on cheap grace. Cheap grace is grace without the cross, grace without repentance, and grace without cost.

King Solomon tells us in the book of Proverbs that the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord. Wisdom, unlike knowledge, is the ability to see things as God sees them. While this book offers practical pieces of advice, it also teaches us that wisdom cannot exist in one’s life without a relationship with God.

The Gospel is counterintuitive to humans. We are used to earning almost everything in our lives. In the book of Romans, Paul makes it clear that we cannot earn our way to God; in fact, even the “good” deeds we do are like filthy rags before the Lord. Listen to Paul as he teaches us that we are more sinful than we could ever imagine but also more loved than we could ever imagine.

Israel has not repented from their ways, and in turn God has punished them. Lamentations refutes any idea that suffering must be passive and private. This book contains poems filled with deep sorrow in response to the capture of Jerusalem and the destruction of the Temple. Listen to the speaker as he refuses to be silent in the face of suffering and as he waits on the Lord to bring restoration.

This letter was written by Paul while he was imprisoned Rome. The apostle is experiencing persecution for his faith, but this is no surprise to him, nor is it stealing his hope. "Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted" (2 Tim. 3:12). He is writing this letter to encourage Timothy, his coworker, to be strong in the Lord in spite of suffering. He calls on him to be a good soldier of Jesus Christ, as we should all strive to be ourselves.

The word Gospel means "good news", and this is just what the Apostle Mark shares with us in the second book of the New Testament. Mark tells us that Jesus has two natures: fully divine and fully man. Jesus was human with emotions, and yet he was also God in the flesh. But why did God need to become man? Why did he lower himself when he is the highest in the universe? Listen to the Gospel of Mark as he gives us the answers to these questions.

The apostle John shares with us his main goal: "...that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name" (John 20:31). John states that Jesus is the son of God whom the Father sent to us to accomplish something no one else could. Follow John as he prepares the way for the one who is the only way to eternal life.

In light of Jesus' second coming, we should not be compelled to hide out until his return; rather, we should be actively participating in his restoration plan for the world as we wait in anticipation. Paul teaches the Thessalonians that the second coming should not paralyze believers from doing work for the kingdom. Instead it should motivate them to live in a way that is pleasing to God. We all have duties to complete before Jesus' return, so we should "...not grow weary in doing good" (2 Thes. 3:13).

When God led his people out of Egypt, his work in their lives was not complete. God had a plan to transform his people to be recognized as distinctively his. The Israelites were called to be set apart and to be holy, but living a life of holiness is no walk in the park. Follow the Israelites as they strive to live apart from sin by following a daunting list of regulations and laws.

Like many of us, the Thessalonians need to be reminded of the reality of Christ's second coming. In this book Paul encourages believers to look forward to the second coming as the final accomplishment of God's promise to save his people. In light of the Thessalonians' false sense of security, Paul addresses the timing of the second coming only by saying, "...the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night" (1 Thes. 5:2).
