Auch in Eva Björg Ægisdóttirs drittem Krimi ist nichts so, wie es zunächst scheint, und sie erweist sich einmal mehr als Meisterin der psychologischen Spannungsliteratur.

Als eine alkoholabhängige, alleinerziehende Mutter verschwindet und einen Abschiedsbrief hinterlässt, gehen alle von einem Selbstmord aus. Bis ihre Leiche sieben Monate später in einem Lavafeld entdeckt wird. Auch im zweiten Band der preisgekrönten isländischen Krimiserie ermitteln Kommissarin Elma und ihr Team in einem hochspannenden und komplexen Fall. Im Spätherbst wird in einem Lavafeld in Westisland eine Leiche entdeckt. Es handelt sich um Maríanna, eine alleinerziehende Mutter, die vor sieben Monaten spurlos verschwand und von der man annahm, dass sie Selbstmord begangen hatte.

Als in der Nähe des Leuchtturms der isländischen Stadt Akranes die Leiche einer zunächst unbekannten jungen Frau gefunden wird, stellt sich schnell heraus, dass sie keine Fremde in dem kleinen Ort ist. Polizistin Elma, die selbst in Akranes aufgewachsen und nach dem Ende ihrer Beziehung aus Reykjavík in den Ort ihrer Kindheit zurückgekehrt ist, übernimmt die Ermittlungen zusammen mit ihren Kollegen Saevar und Hördur. Gemeinsam stoßen sie auf ein Geheimnis in der Vergangenheit der Toten, dessen Folgen bis heute nachwirken.
