In the Scottish canon, to be placed alongside Robert Burns is high praise indeed, but it’s a rightful place for one of Scotland’s finest novelists. Born in 1850, he managed to cram much into his 44 years, traveling widely to France, the United States, Samoa and the South Seas. Of course, he is widely feted for his classics: Dr Jeckyll & Mr Hyde, Treasure Island, and poetry volumes such as A Child’s Garden of Verses.

Il primo romanzo di uno degli autori più importanti della letteratura mondiale. Pubblicato nel 1877 su una rivista londinese, il testo è stato riscoperto solo nel 1982 grazie a una lettera ritrovata nell'università di Yale che ne attesta la paternità dello scrittore scozzese. Come molte opere prime, "Una vecchia canzone" presenta una buona dose delle tematiche che, seppur non del tutto sviluppate, caratterizzano le opere più mature di Stevenson.

El extraño caso del doctor Jekyll y el señor Hyde es una novela escrita por Robert Louis Stevenson, que trata acerca de un abogado, Gabriel John Utterson, que investiga la extraña relación entre su viejo amigo, el Dr. Henry Jekyll, y el misántropo Edward Hyde. El libro es conocido por ser una representación vívida de un trastorno psiquiátrico que hace que una misma persona tenga dos o más identidades o personalidades con características opuestas entre sí.

Il diavolo nella bottiglia è un racconto di Robert Louis Stevenson pubblicato per la prima volta su New York Herald (Febbraio-Marzo 1891) e su Black and White a Londra (Marzo-Aprile 1891). Fu inserito poi, nel 1893, nella raccolta Island Nights' Entertainments (Gli intrattenimenti delle notti sull'isola), edito a Londra da Cassell, con illustrazioni di Gordon Browne e William Hatherell.

Man weiß nicht viel vom alten Fettes - außer dass er ein trinkfester Schotte mit medizinischem Wissen ist, der nicht viel spricht. Eines Tages jedoch gibt es einen medizinischen Notfall. Als Fettes den Namen des Notarztes hört, wird er leichenblass: McFarlane! Etwa der McFarlane, mit dem Fettes damals Leichname für den Anatomiekurs auf nächtlichen Friedhöfen ausgegraben hatte? Eine wunderbar klassische Gruselgeschichte für Fans des Genres.

Was hat es mit der krummen Janet nur auf sich? Alle Bewohner des Dorfes schwören, sie sei vom Teufel besessen. Allerdings: Pastor Soulis ist ein unerschrockener Mann. Und so nimmt er sie als Haushälterin in seinen Dienst... Klassische Schauergeschichte, die seit jeher als eines der Meisterwerke des Genres gilt.

Keawe ist ein durchaus glücklicher Mensch, aber ein bisschen mehr Glück wäre natürlich auch nicht schlecht. Also schlägt er zu, als ihm eine besondere Flasche angeboten wird - eine Flasche, die sämtliche Wünsche erfüllt. Doch natürlich hat diese Flasche ihren Preis, und dieser Preis ist verdammt hoch, wie sich herausstellt. Stevensons Geschichte ist wunderbar einfach erzählt und spannend bis zum Schluss.

Weiß man, dass Stevenson bei den Samoanischen Eingeborenen als "Tusitala" (Geschichtenerzähler) geliebt und verehrt wurde und dass "Das Flaschenteufelchen" auf eine alte Anekdote zurückgeht, wird es nicht Wunder nehmen, dass in diesem Hörspiel kein neutraler Erzähler auftritt, sondern dass ein singender Maat, den wohl das Schicksal eine Zeit lang dort hat hängen lassen, und der Meister selbst an einem Treffpunkt der Samoaner am Strand ihnen diese Geschichte aus der Südsee erzählen... Die kurze Schlussepisode ist uns von seiner Frau Fanny überliefert.
