I never forgot her...Noni, the woman just as unique as her name who never failed to light a fire inside me. The last time I saw her I was in a bad place, a dark one that actually sent me to the Big Apple today. I was in the city to lead another one of my late father's corporate divisions yes, but running, escape, had been my true plan of intent. I had lots to get away from, my sins a laundry list, and it had been she, Noni, who got me out of them the last time. She did more than just fill a void. She fixed my messed up soul no matter how brief a time. So why had I let her go?

When I applied to medical school, I never thought I'd be paying the bill by becoming a surrogate. I suppose a girl has to do what she has to do in the end, so I decided to intercept Uncle Sam before he could come for me. Funny enough, it's surprisingly easy to find willing participants. I answered an ad, and the guy showed up at the coffeehouse we agreed to meet at. He showed up frickin'...beautiful and with brown eyes that tightened my tummy in ways they probably shouldn't have. He looks familiar to me. Like I've seen him on the news or in the paper or something.

Asa: I come to Aspen to get away. I need to get away. My ex Christine is a true pill. She lets me know exactly why she cheated on me once again, and I just need something, anything to take this pain away. That's how this all starts with the girl I meet in Aspen. But she was never just a one off. Noni: My ex is a dick, an epic one and despite the urge to curl up with a tub of Häagen-Dazs and a chick flick, I give into my friend pushing this Aspen trip on me. I meet a guy there. I lose myself there, and though I don't know him, I need him.

Throughout my life, all that's ever mattered to me has been the win and the thrill of the game. But then I meet Roxie, and everything changes. She's the girl no one sees, completely opposite from the world I live in and the life I lead, but I don't care. She makes me better. She makes me see things in ways I never have before, and I think I do that for her, too. The problem is the complications in my life may see fit to end us, test her in ways I'm sure she's never been tested.

He's Miami's hottest new MVP. She's the woman who makes it all worthwhile. I brought us to Miami, my engagement ring on Roxie's finger, and nothing feels better than this woman by my side. She keeps me home, keeps me grounded, and having her with me on this new journey means everything. I'm well aware of what Roxie's given up to come to Miami with me: an entire other life, and any sacrifices I've made are none compared to that. This woman is made for me and I am for her, and if we can get through what we dealt with in college, I think we'll be golden here.

T.S. Eliot tells us in his poem “The Hollow Men” that the world will end not with a bang, but with a whimper. Well, he was wrong. Dead wrong. When death and destruction come, the screams of terror, horror, and excruciating pain will rend the blood-red sky and be heard across the world. When your number is up, there’s nowhere to run and no place to hide. You can't cheat death; death will find you. It always does.
