True Life

A true woman of faith, Ruth is one of five women in the Bible listed in the ancestry of Jesus. She was loyal, displayed humility, and appreciated her mother-in-law, Naomi. Ruth, a Moabite, married into a Hebrew family. The father-in-law, brother-in-law, and husband died, leaving Naomi and both daughter-in-laws alone. When Naomi returns to Bethlehem, Ruth returns with her. In a foreign land, Ruth was free of family obligations; she demonstrated loyalty, faith, and obedience to God.

The first biblical book of Samuel depicts David, a shepherd and youngest son of Jesse. He rises to fame as a musician and by killing the giant Goliath. He later becomes a favorite of King Saul and a close friend of his son, Jonathan. Worried that David is trying to claim his throne, Saul turns on David but is later killed in battle. After the death of Saul, David is anointed as King. He conquers Jerusalem, takes the Ark of the Covenant, and establishes one the most faithful, powerful King to reign. 

Joseph was an important figure in the biblical book of Genesis. He was the son of Jacob and Rachel. He was Rachel’s firstborn, and Jacob’s 11th son. He was favored by his father who presented him with a long coat of many colors. When Joseph had two dreams, implying his supremacy over his brothers, it angered them. Out of jealousy, they sold him into slavery, where he rose to become the second most powerful man in Egypt.
