Description

Debuted and currently #4 on the New York Times audio bestseller list!

Fifty-something David Spade is letting it all hang out. Older (yes), wiser (debatable), in A Polaroid Guy in a Snapchat World, the actor, comedian, and SNL alum reflects on his life then and now through a series of candid and hysterical (and occasionally cringe-worthy) takes on everything from why it’s getting harder to date younger women, to what it’s like being a dad now, to suddenly being the “old guy” on set.

Whether he’s musing on the alarming ease of breaking up over text (he’s done it), feuding with a teenage Internet celebrity (spoiler alert, he lost), or dealing with the friend from high school who became his full-time plus-one, when the star of Joe Dirt and Just Shoot Me unleashes his biting wit and dirty mind on the general freakiness of middle-age, he’s in a league of his own (not to be confused with A League of Their Own).

Written and performed for the Audible experience, Spade’s new comic memoir takes listeners along for the sometimes embarrassing and always hilarious ride of getting older in our fleeting “Snapchat World”.

Good book

Repeats some of the stories from his standup album but overall a solid listen. Wish he talked more about his time on SNL if I’m being honest.

Spade is still the best

Binged this audiobook in two days! Literally did not want to turn it off! David is just as hilarious as ever and is such a great story teller. Absolutely love this and will probably listen again in a few weeks haha!

solid 5/5

1) Dont listen to this with young kids. They'll laugh in all the appropriate places, and it gets super awkward when your 6 year old laughs at Spade in a physical appointment.

2) Just turn it off when going through drive-thru. The nice young lady taking your order won't understand the context of what you're listening to, and everyone at McDonalds will think you're a weirdo.

Other than that, enjoy. It's pretty darn tootin' funny.

Well worth buying/using a credit!

I've been a David Spade fan since his 'SNL' days. This audiobook is hilarious! I enjoyed every second of this! It was laugh out loud funny.

Free on Spotify

I love Spade. Saw him with Dennis Miller a few months ago. But this "book" is virtually his entire 2014 album, which is available on Spotify. Don't waste a credit.

Much better than the first one!

This book is such a good listen for when you’re running errands, driving your car to work, or simple things like that.
As David mentioned, it doesn’t add anything to your life, but it’s entertaining and light to listen to.
I find myself looking forward to head to the car for work just so I can listen to it.

Cynical humor at its best!

If you are a Spade fan, or even if you’re not, this book is a witty take on life as it was and is now. As a 40 something woman, I appreciated the nostalgic SNL and Farley references, as well as the more poignant moments of Spade’s upbringing and early years. His sarcasm and cynicism are the perfect pair as he describes the many hilarious moments of his life as a “star”. While a bit raunchy at times, this book is worth the price and the listen. It’s laugh out loud funny in a world where we don’t laugh nearly enough. Thanks David Spade!!

Laugh out loud hilarious

A great performance of a story that is both funny and touching by a guy who far more decent and thoughtful than his public persona.

In my 20s, but still love it...

A lot of this book is geared at relating more towards those who aren't growing up in this "social media world". However, I'm in my twenties, and I grew up loving David Spade's comedy, so I wanted to give it a try anyway. I am so glad I did. There was a lot that was still very relatable. He's an amazing story teller in this. 6 hours flew by like it was nothing. I don't laugh out loud at much, but I really did at this, making myself look like a complete idiot many times. I would listen to him ramble like he did in this book for hours more! There are definitely some raunchy parts, but still hilarious. Such a well thought through look at his life.

Spade Succeeds in Spades

Lots of great comics out there- add a voracious online appetite that will swallow 10 years of material in a 45 min. spot, and you have near impossible odds of establishing a long term relationship with a loyal audience. Some have done it, always with a unique personality- able to overcome tarnishing time with its constantly new and shifting difficulty levels....
Lenny Bruce, Jerry Lewis, Carlin, Pryor, Dangerfield-modern comics at least have the shoulders of Giants to start off on-
Bill Hicks, Kennison, Hedberg, Louis CK, Chappell, Chris Rock....again, even given the amazing content, it’s the unique personalities that make for a lifetime friend-
And there you have the story and glory of Davie Spade- Trusting in his own personality to be his ‘character’, it’s clear that this shy and tentative person is never taking any chances by self deprecation, or self shaming; he’s got the room at Hello-
David is Everyman’s go-to hang partner. Like Gaffigan , Tom Papa, and (on a good day) Artie Lang, he can go for a couple hours and never approach a worn out welcome- He’s a welcome guest and a truly trusted comic- he’ll be around as long as he wants to be.

True to Spade: Lightweight and caustic

I enjoy david spade’s sarcastic wit but a little bit goes a long way. He is not very likeable as a reflective author. His unhappiness is somewhat disturbing. Hope he figures out a more fulfilling life.

Do yourself a favor and listen to his first book.

This book is bad. If you’ve heard his standup routine and listened to his first book, you’ve already heard 50-70% of this one. He thinly veils old bits by updating one reference point (for example, mentioning Maroon 5 instead of AC/DC). Other times he doesn’t bother changing anything at all. It feels like a smart, funny guy got lazy and did this for the paycheck. I thoroughly enjoyed his first book, this one was legitimately disappointing.
