À propos de cet audio

Given a chance at immortality, can Wu Ying grasp the fleeting opportunity? Long Wu Ying never expected to join a Sect or become a real cultivator. His days were spent studying, planting rice on the family farm and spending time with his friends. Fate, however, has different plans for Wu Ying and when the army arrives at his village, he and many other members of the village are conscripted.

Given the opportunity to join the Verdant Green Waters Sect, Wu Ying must decide between his pedestrian, common life and the exciting, blood soaked life of a cultivator. Join Wu Ying as he takes his first step on his Thousand Li journey to become an immortal cultivator. The First Step is the first novel in A Thousand Li series, a book on cultivation, immortals, wondrous martial art styles and spirit beasts and will be loved by wuxia and xianxia fans. The First Step is written by Tao Wong, the bestselling scifi and fantasy LitRPG author of the System Apocalypse, Adventures on Brad and the Hidden Wishes.

Ce que les critiques en disent

“A Thousand Li is one of the best English-language cultivation series out there, written with obvious love for the genre. If you’ve heard about cultivation but don’t know where to begin, this is a great place to start.” —Will Wight, New York Times Best-Selling Author of the Cradle series

really great start slow but soon turn interesting. it's a good old wuxia like you would expect not much a xianxia.

I was not expecting this level of quality writing, this has the best pacing of any Chinese fantasy I’ve ever read. Absolutely hooked me. I’ve listened to the first three books in 3 days. It’s too good. I couldn’t stop. Came back to write this review.

Wow. Amazing.

Can’t wait for the 2nd! And Baldree is yet again very very good, reminding much of Cradle.

Great start to the series!

This was a pleasant surprise. Pacing, character work, fantastic descriptions of fight sequences, a fun plot that emphasizes classism and prejudice. The audible narration is great as well. I’m terrible at pronunciation so it was an added component to listening to it rather than reading. Will definitely check out the second book. Took a chance on these with the recent audible series sale; totally worth it!

Great action and a fun plot; good start to a series!

The overall potential is strong here but I just couldn't escape the pacing problems. The writer both over and under describes things. I can understand needing to explain their version of the magical Chi system, but it falls well beyond the need to remind the writer that it's better to show than tell. The show was lacking so frequently and sometimes frustratingly. At one point the character is suddenly in a new town and the writer pulls a flashback to have an action scene against a mystical creature. Some elements were very classic Kung-Fuey movie. That's entertaining enough, but again action is described mildly and the scenes are mostly dialogue. I'm pretty sure about 60% of the story is him running while discussing with himself that he'll be trying to level up. The potential makes me wonder if I should listen to the next book, but honestly I'm putting this down. We'll see if I come back.

It was ok but really had pacing issues.
