Luke is a straightforward man. There are only a few things he wants in life: Levels, things to fight to gain levels, and finding Cookie, so he can fight things more efficiently. Yet, the other members of his team are ready for some relaxation, and fun in the sun. After all, there should be huge perks that come with stopping an invasion in its tracks. But surprisingly, being famous for making the Kingdom wealthy and powerful has its downsides. Namely, there is now a huge price on their heads. The Four soon find themselves searching for a way to pit their power against the world.

Now the war is escalating to unprecedented levels, and only one side needs to worry about being slain. With the attackers knowing they can get right back up after dying, they are throwing themselves against their centuries-long foe without caring for the consequences. Description
Trapped between worlds. Potentia might be the way out. Time to kill Something.
Luke is an apprentice leather worker, training with his family to one day take over the business. He and his friends Andre, Taylor, and Zed have known each other forever, and swear that nothing will ever tear apart their friendship.
Then the Royal Decree comes. With the Dynasty of Dogs invading, and strange monsters appearing in the Hollow Kingdom, a draft has been implemented. Everyone 17 or older is required to be tested for "Potential". If they have it, they will join the mysterious and renowned Ascender Corps. If not, they will be drafted into the Legion as a forced recruit.
Three of the friends test as powerful, or dangerous, classes of Ascender. Luke is found to have Potential, barely, but when he steps through the portal to begin his training…he is pulled to a plane that shouldn't exist. With no class trainer, the possibility of survival is low. Luke decides that he wants to live, and keeping his humanity isn't going to help.
His best chance is going Full Murderhobo.

just cause its dk doesn't mean its good.
honestly whats with all those high reviews....some people wouldn't know a good book if it slapped them in the face. the story literally begins with "let me tell you about the first of the four luke, the murderhobo" then proceeds to follow 2 other charracters for atleast 5hours. im forcing myself to listen hoping that things would change but at the 5 hour mark I am seriously not impressed. dk let me down with this one I am returning it and honestly I'm so pissed I'm thinking of returning all books written by him. the long and short of it is u could cut out the first 5hours of this book and I feel like u still wouldn't miss much. its not for me.

A decent story interrupted by game mechanics
One of the problems with the LitRPG genre is that it's easy to get sidetracked by five-minute-long character sheets every couple chapters. Something: Murderhobo doesn't fall into that group...exactly. Instead, you get exposition about game mechanics - and LOTS of it. The book tries a little too hard to make game mechanics transparent to the characters within it, but it still ends up sounding like game mechanics - and it's off-putting to hear a character launch into a twenty-second explanation of how something works in the middle of combat. I frequently had the thought that I was listening to an introduction to how to play someone's homebrew RPG system...and it drove me mad.
Yet I kept listening. The characters in the book are interesting, and the plot was unique enough that I wanted to hear more. There's a fine line between 'unique' and 'zany' that this book kept wavering back and forth on. At times it all felt surreal, with a good quarter of the book devoted to one character's increasing childish insanity. At other times it felt epic, with breathtakingly novel concepts of magic and characters that felt important. There were some odd choices - the majority of the book was devoted to the training of each character, for example - that could turn people away, and the conclusion of the book has the team fighting against something that wasn't even foreshadowed in the rest of the book. All in all, it felt like a rough draft - tons of exciting concepts and three-dimensional characters, yet in need of a good editor and to lay off the game mechanics.
The narrator was quite good, although his ability to do women's voices is weak. Early on, there was a scene where the main character's little sister spoke, and it made me put down the book for a while after hearing how bad it was...but that was in part due to the expository, unrealistic dialogue for a child. But I gave the reader another chance, and really enjoyed the many different voices in the book.
All in all, I'm disappointed with this one, yet I feel that the author shows a lot of promise in the future.

entertaining but clearly book 1
If you like other work buyDakota Krout you will like this. its very impressive that every series is tied in a single world. This book has some really funny moments but is very clearly a 'book 1.' There is a lot of set up that some may like and some will be put off by. If nothing else, have a listen to the bloopers at the end. I've never heard bloopers from audio books before and it was brilliant!

Actually painful…
Wow what a slog… let me start by saying that I’m a big fan lit RPG books, but this was painful… the magic and leveling system was actually painful, though there were some cool ideas and was hopeful about the Druid but my god why does every character have to scream every bloody word, and I’m glad I don’t have to hear the words Xenographic potentia again. The first 3\4 of the book were mostly tedious with occasional moments of okayness. The only parts that were a bit interesting was the murder hobo parts, the mage and Druid were boring as hell. I do say the book did get better near the end when something actually happened, but most of the book was like wading through vast nothing waiting for something… so I guess the title was aptly named… after listening to He Who Fights With Monsters, Defiance of the Fall, and Dungeon Crawler Carl, Full murder hobo had left me expecting something exciting and unique… but honestly the murder hobo himself was the only thing about this book that was even slightly interesting… my advice is to spare your ear holes from the mostly inappropriate yelling and listen to the other books I mentioned

Oh man what a wild ride
I've seen more than a few unhappy reviews saying this series is not DK, but let me tell you those reviews are so wrong, this series is absolutely hilarious in so many ways, his writing as usual is top notch. There is technically three main characters and the story does switch between them at times which I do not usually like except DK makes the characters so dam interesting and the stories are seamlessly connected as one that it really isn't an issue and does not complicate nor take away from the story, this goes to show the amazing skill DK has. But by far the Murderhobo is honestly my favorite MC ever in any book I've read or listened to.....hey what can I say...cookie keeps him somewhat sane

Ridiculous
If you want to see the real reviews, go to the Goodreads website. Amazon Audible pulls reviews for any books that have been returned. So so books tend to float to the top with better ratings because they are mostly positive and very skewed.

Misleading book description
So this book says that it’s going to follow one main character but that’s not true. The book follows three main characters and jumps between the three because they are separate most of the book. For someone who HATES multiple main characters this was extremely annoying.
On the upside, two of the three characters are actually enjoyable to read. The supposed main character was my favorite and I wish it had focused on him.

Just god awful
Seriously? 4.8 star average? When I see a book with ratings that high, I'm expecting something extraordinary.
What Dakota Krout is serving up here feels more like a first draft of a poorly conceived novel, This is not even up the the poorest quality standards that I'd be looking for in a book store. Maybe I'm being a little hard... but I'm making up for the solid 4.8 review... where did that come from? That is like saying this is up there with the greatest fantasy novels of all time.
The characters here are paper thin. The story keeps shifting from one character to another... there are four of them... i think. It was hard to tell. Maybe part of the problem was the over the top narration going on. Gilliland has a good cartoon exaggerated manner... but the same voice was applied to each character and it honestly got annoying after a while.
The plot... while kind of interesting, was just a rehash of 200 other lit rpg books. While not perfect Aleron Kongs books are better in this this genre.
Seriously, this book is not worth a credit. I've got around 700 audible titles in my library & I'd rank this very nearly at the bottom.

Best from DK so far
I'm an old head from WuxiaWorld ...so I love cultivation novels.
This is shaping up to be my favorite series from Mountaindale Press so far!!!
DK was the first author I found who really did a good job of introducing aspects of mana channels and cultivation into western style fantasy. Divine Dungeon scratched that itch, but only barely. The world building was great, and the whole city development aspect was great too ...but I wanted the story to go deeper and I feel like DK ended that story arc prematurely.
Arcanist is enjoyable, but it's really snarky n that takes a bit away from the "seriousity" of the MC's development. I still like the series, but again I feel like it was missing something.
Artorion is dope, and I will continue with the series, but again I think the snarkiness is a little thick and it detracts from the story for me. Also, at times Artorion feels aimless and pointless ...and that's not my favorite style of story-telling. I enjoy trying to figure out how the MC will overcome the challenges set before him/her, and guessing at what curve balls the author might throw. Artorion doesn't allow for anything of that, he's just kind of floating around all the time.
Murderhobo is finally picking up where I felt that Divine Dungeon left off. There are funny moments in it, but it doesn't try to make everything into a joke. The magic system is really diverse and well executed. I'm enjoying the development of all the MC's. They have real problems with real consequences. There's great world building happening, in a way that keeps me curious and excited. The story is keeping me engaged and I'm loving it.
I hope this ends up being more than 3 books, and regardless I hope DK sticks with this style of story-telling for his next series in the Cal-multiverse as well.
This one is a winner. Highly recommend!!!

Should be 6 hours shorter
There is a very obvious part where the story starts about 6 hours into the book, everything before that was very boring.

A bit off.
I can see why some people (myself included) would be less enthusiastic about this book. After all, now Dakota Krout is working on three series, and they all take a while to write. (Compaired to, say, Eric Ugland. Who has managed to masterfully balance both quality and speed) I have little issue with the book itself. Not the biggest fan of the Cookie development (Unless it becomes a sentient item.) Overall, mostly offput by the narrator. Not bad, just needs to work on his female voices. (Didn't mean to sound so harsh. I know both narrating and writing are a lot more difficult than I realize, and I really appreciate both the author and narrator.)
P.S. Kudos to anyone who both read enough of my review to see this and was diligent enough to go this deep into the comments. 👍

Love DK
I love The completion is Chronicles. I have read it and listen to it multiple times, but this is not a good story.
