À propos de cet audio

Continued to do list for the post apocalypse:

4. Fall in love with the girl ordered to kill you.

5. Cash out the absolute FORTUNE you're holding so tightly that even the wrong thought could cause you to explode.

6. Keep a VERY low profile and do NOT piss off the cutthroat goblin bankers who secretly rule Freetown.

7. Especially don't piss off all your enemies with a COMPETING BANK!

8. Ignore your own advice and see what happens before unlocking perilous secrets that could reshape an entire world!

Continues and improves on foundation set in book 1.

Top tier writing/pacing and narration has solidified the series at the top of my list of must haves.

Book 3 can’t come quickly enough.

Highly Recommend

Book 1 in my opinion spent too much time in the MC’s head IMHO. That’s always going to be a thing with this style of LitRPG, but generally it’s OK and part of the charm of these types of series kind of 75% in and 25% out of the head. Book 1 was more of a 90% in the head and 10% out in the world. However Book 2 balances the scale much better and is an easier listen as a result. Book 2 solved a lot of Book 1’s internal hyper-focus with world building and an expanding cast of characters that are interesting. It’s still a lot of internal monologuing but the big difference being, whereas the MC spent a lot of time isolated in a gritty reality that feels like more “bad dream than reality”, in Book 2 the outside world plays a much larger part and involves more interactions with other people that are more interesting and enlightening for the reader. You feel like a mushroom reading book one, but you are shown the light in book 2 and the types of problems the MC deals with are just more interesting and in some ways higher stakes since the MC has built something. It’s not perfect, but it’s feeling like there is a lot more hope now for the listener.

The progression of Book 2 is very satisfying and interesting and varied and this transforms the series for me. I’ve had a much better time with this series as a result with VERY interesting situations happening almost all of the time.

The narration, seems a bit more grounded. It’s hard to put my finger on it, but the narration as a result isn’t as exhausting and I feel like the narrator dialled back the overacting by 10% to where it’s more manageable and enjoyable to listen to. No longer the aural slog it was in Book 1. Subtle but welcome improvements.

I have a few series that start off a bit like Book 1 that eventually totally win me over. Where writing quality improves and the world building expands in exciting directions and as a result my appreciation for the series only grows. This could be that type of series. I do feel the author has in-fact improved from Book 1 to Book 2 and that’s fantastic.

Keep it up.

I was harsh with the review of Book 1, but Book 2 changes things.
