Kay Willingham led a life as glamorous as it was public - she was a gorgeous Georgetown socialite, philanthropist, and the ex-wife of the vice president. So why was she parked in a Bentley convertible idling behind a DC private school, in the middle of the night, with the man who was the head of that school? Who shot them both, point blank, and why? The shocking double homicide is blazed across the internet, TV, newspapers - and across Alex Cross's mind. Kay had been his patient once. And maybe more.

A mummified corpse, over half a century old, is found in the cellar of an abandoned building in a remote New Mexico ghost town. Corrie Swanson is assigned what seems to her a throwaway case: to ID the body and determine cause of death. She brings archaeologist Nora Kelly to excavate the body and lend her expertise to the investigation, and together they uncover something unexpected and shocking: the deceased apparently died in agony, in a fetal position, skin coming off in sheets, with a rictus of horror frozen on his face. Hidden on the corpse lies a 16th-century Spanish gold cross.

It's 1949. When war veteran Aloysius Archer is released from Carderock Prison, he is sent to Poca City on parole with a short list of dos and a much longer list of don'ts: do report regularly to his parole officer, don't go to bars, certainly don't drink alcohol, do get a job - and don't ever associate with loose women. The small town quickly proves more complicated and dangerous than Archer's years serving in the war or his time in jail.

Description
FBI Agent Atlee Pine's search for her sister Mercy clashes with military investigator John Puller's high-stakes case, leading them both deep into a global conspiracy - from which neither of them will escape unscathed.
For many long years, Atlee Pine was tormented by uncertainty after her twin sister, Mercy, was abducted at the age of six and never seen again. Now, just as Atlee is pressured to end her investigation into Mercy's disappearance, she finally gets her most promising breakthrough yet: the identity of her sister's kidnapper, Ito Vincenzo.
With time running out, Atlee and her assistant Carol Blum race to Vincenzo's last known location in Trenton, New Jersey - and unknowingly stumble straight into John Puller's case, blowing his arrest during a drug ring investigation involving a military installation.
Stunningly, Pine and Puller's joint investigation uncovers a connection between Vincenzo's family and a breathtaking scheme that strikes at the very heart of global democracy. Peeling back the layers of deceit, lies and cover-ups, Atlee finally discovers the truth about what happened to Mercy. And that truth will shock Pine to her very core.

Disappointed with ending. After reading previous 2 books, I thought surely Atlee would finally solve the mystery. Now I have to wait another year? Very upset with Baldacci. I have read or listened to ALL of his books; this may be my last one.

Bye Bye Baldacci
Die hard fan for years but no more. I'm done. This is pretty much a rehash of the last story line just a new location with some soap box political commentary pontificating thrown in. Narration is great, Kyf is always spot on, his range and ability to get accents and inflection right make even a bad story line tolerable but he couldn't save this one. Brittany was starting to grow on me, and she does a decent job but again, nothing can make this mess tolerable.

Like and Hate
Fast paced. Most of Baldacci's books read like a good mystery, action movie. My only issue is the twin's situation. Really, we had to go there and it had to be that? So many other directions to take. No rainbows and unicorns in this book and that's why I liked and hated it. Looking out for next book in the series.

Really frustrated with the turn the book took at the end. So many ways it could have gone and instead it just seemed silly. I've never wanted to get to the end of a book like I did this one. Not sure I'll continue this series after this

Daylight: starring "Karen" as FBI agent Atlee Pine
It is a complicated story and the people involved are many. You must read the first two book for this to make any sense. My issue however the way Atlee Pine is acting at the end of the book. It is more like an immature child than the strong female FBI agent. Anyone who is an avid reader knows that one over the top scene can ruin a book or a character. This one comes very close and the annoying antics of the lead is impossible to ignore. In a fit of childlike temper tantrum mixed with out of control you-tube Karen like anger, she stomps toward a house under construction belonging to someone who made her mad. Then she literally proceeds to karate kick ((Hi-Yaa!")) and hand chop ((Hee-yaaaa!")) down a framed house under construction. All this after firing her pistol in the air sending workers running for cover. There will be a book four, but to have any degree of realism, this one will no doubt start with an ex-agent Atlee escaping from the mental ward.
