Histoire
Eeny, meeny, miny, moe. Catch a tiger by its toe. It's seared into Atlee Pine's memory: the kidnapper's chilling rhyme as he chose between six-year-old Atlee and her twin sister, Mercy. Mercy was taken. Atlee was spared. She never saw Mercy again. Three decades after that terrifying night, Atlee Pine works for the FBI. She's the lone agent assigned to the Shattered Rock, Arizona resident agency, which is responsible for protecting the Grand Canyon. So when one of the Grand Canyon's mules is found stabbed to death at the bottom of the canyon - and its rider missing - Pine is called in to investigate.

It's 1949. When war veteran Aloysius Archer is released from Carderock Prison, he is sent to Poca City on parole with a short list of dos and a much longer list of don'ts: do report regularly to his parole officer, don't go to bars, certainly don't drink alcohol, do get a job - and don't ever associate with loose women. The small town quickly proves more complicated and dangerous than Archer's years serving in the war or his time in jail.

Histoire
Mickey Gibson, mother and former detective, leads a hectic life similar to that of many moms: juggling the demands of her two small children with the tasks of her job working remotely for ProEye, a global investigation company that hunts down wealthy tax and credit cheats. When Mickey gets a call from a colleague named Arlene Robinson, she thinks nothing of Arlene’s unusual request for her to go inventory the vacant home of an arms dealer who cheated ProEye’s clients and fled. That is, until she arrives at the mansion to discover a dead body in a secret room—and that nothing is as it seems.
Auteur(s): David Baldacci
Description
In this gripping mystery, an FBI Agent’s search for her sister clashes with a military investigator's high-stakes case, leading them both deep into a global conspiracy - from which neither of them will escape unscathed.
For many long years, Atlee Pine was tormented by uncertainty after her twin sister, Mercy, was abducted at the age of six and never seen again. Now, just as Atlee is pressured to end her investigation into Mercy's disappearance, she finally gets her most promising breakthrough yet: the identity of her sister's kidnapper, Ito Vincenzo.
With time running out, Atlee and her assistant Carol Blum race to Vincenzo's last known location in Trenton, New Jersey - and unknowingly stumble straight into John Puller's case, blowing his arrest during a drug ring investigation involving a military installation.
Stunningly, Pine and Puller's joint investigation uncovers a connection between Vincenzo's family and a breathtaking scheme that strikes at the very heart of global democracy. Peeling back the layers of deceit, lies and cover-ups, Atlee finally discovers the truth about what happened to Mercy. And that truth will shock Pine to her very core.

Very strong feelings about this book
I was told as a child if you can’t say something nice about it, say nothing at all. I finished reading the book last night and still can’t find one positive thing to say.
Better to spend your time doing something constructive.

Heart Pounding Mystery
Attlee Pine is a seasoned investigator. I would describe her as a cat with nine lives. She never gives up in spite of all the lies she was told. She is focused on finding her despite all odds. She overcame all obstacles and was close to finding her sister. I am looking forward to the continuation of the story. Kudos to David Baldacci. He is a master of suspense.

Bye Bye Baldacci
Die hard fan for years but no more. I'm done.
This is pretty much a rehash of the last story line just a new location with some soap box political commentary pontificating thrown in.
Narration is great, Kyf is always spot on, his range and ability to get accents and inflection right make even a bad story line tolerable but he couldn't save this one. Brittany was starting to grow on me, and she does a decent job but again, nothing can make this mess tolerable.

Daylight: starring "Karen" as FBI agent Atlee Pine
It is a complicated story and the people involved are many. You must read the first two book for this to make any sense.
My issue however the way Atlee Pine is acting at the end of the book. It is more like an immature child than the strong female FBI agent. Anyone who is an avid reader knows that one over the top scene can ruin a book or a character. This one comes very close and the annoying antics of the lead is impossible to ignore.
In a fit of childlike temper tantrum mixed with out of control you-tube Karen like anger, she stomps toward a house under construction belonging to someone who made her mad. Then she literally proceeds to karate kick ((Hi-Yaa!")) and hand chop ((Hee-yaaaa!")) down a framed house under construction. All this after firing her pistol in the air sending workers running for cover.
There will be a book four, but to have any degree of realism, this one will no doubt start with an ex-agent Atlee escaping from the mental ward.

Like and Hate
Fast paced. Most of Baldacci's books read like a good mystery, action movie. My only issue is the twin's situation. Really, we had to go there and it had to be that? So many other directions to take. No rainbows and unicorns in this book and that's why I liked and hated it. Looking out for next book in the series.

Never again! No more "Atlee Pine" books for me. She will never find her long lost sister until we quit falling prey to the author's & publisher's game. Reminds me of the kids "Never ending story". Buy the book - she'll get close! but no satisfaction. Absolute rubbish - I've lost all respect for Mr. Baldacci.
