Because of the widespread awareness of the story of the evil Transylvanian count and the success of numerous film adaptations that have been created over the years, the modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.
This production of Dracula is presented by what is possibly the best assemblage of narrating talent ever for one audiobook: Emmy Award nominees Alan Cumming and Tim Curry plus an all-star cast of Audie award-winners Simon Vance (The Millenium Trilogy), Katherine Kellgren (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies), Susan Duerden (The Tiger’s Wife), John Lee (Supergods) and customer favorites Graeme Malcolm (Skippy Dies), Steven Crossley (The Oxford Time Travel series), Simon Prebble (The Baroque Cycle), James Adams (Letters to a Young Contrarian), Nicola Barber (The Rose Garden), Victor Villar-Hauser (Fun Inc.), and Marc Vietor (1Q84). Classic that lives up to its name
Great classic vampire tale, and the cast of voice actors really brought the performance to life, even the undead characters! I can now completely understand how this spawned a whole subgenre of vampire literature, movies, video games, etc.

Good performance of an old classic
This book was performed by a full cast, which made an enormous difference in making the story clear to follow. Since the book is written as a compilation of first person diary entries made by five or six different characters, it would have been much harder to follow without different narrators. The whole cast did a very good job in my opinion.
The story itself is obviously quite old fashioned and is a very slow burn, really taking its time to establish the world and individual characters before anything exciting happens. The characters are often not very bright, taking chapters and chapters to understand things that seem painfully obvious to the reader, and often withholding information from each other for far too long before revealing specifics to the reader. This can be somewhat annoying, but overall it does fit the setting of time and societal norms of the time, which in my opinion is where much of the charm and appeal of the book comes from.
While this book doesn't come off as nearly the same level of unnerving or mysterious as modern horror/mystery/thrillers, it's still really charming and enjoyable in my opinion, especially due to the performance in this version. Ultimately I'm really pleased that this was available for free and that I was able to hear it.

a true classic
I suppose I shouldn't be, but I am still in awe of how well this is written. You take that and add a little Alan Cumming and Tim Curry into the mix and you've got yourself one heck of a jambalaya. So impressed with this rendition of Dracula I am sure it will be a repeat listen

A classic.
Written as all classics, wordy yet beautifully artistic. A wonderful story to have read to you by audible. Listening to this story while driving or traveling, etc., opened up the minds eye to a brilliant experience.
