NATIONAL BESTSELLER • An exiled princess teams up with the last man she thought she could trust in the start of a dazzling and unforgettable epic fantasy romance series.

As a child, Elowen Atarah was ripped away from her dragons and imprisoned by her father, King Garrick of Imirath. Years later, Elowen is now a woman determined to free her dragons. Having established a secret kingdom of her own called Aestilian, she’s ready to do what’s necessary to save her people and seek vengeance. Even if that means having to align herself with the Commander of Vareveth, Cayden Veles, the most feared and dangerous man in all the kingdoms of Ravaryn.

Cayden is ruthless, lethal, and secretive, promising to help Elowen if she will stand with him and all of Vareveth in the pending war against Imirath. Despite their contrasting motives, Elowen can’t ignore their undeniable attraction as they combine their efforts and plot to infiltrate the impenetrable castle of Imirath to steal back her dragons and seek revenge on their common enemy.

As the world tries to keep them apart, the pull between Elowen and Cayden becomes impossible to resist. Working together with their crew over clandestine schemes, the threat of war looms, making the imminent heist to free her dragons their most dangerous adventure yet. But for Elowen, her vengeance is a promise signed in blood, and she’ll stop at nothing to see that promise through.

An immersive fantasy filled with a sizzling reluctant-allies-to-lovers romance, a world to get lost in, dangerous quests, dragon bonds, and an entertaining band of characters to root for, Fear the Flames marks the stunning debut of Olivia Rose Darling.

I thought this was incredible! The FMC was so vibrant and kick-ass! She wasn't a hero though and neither was the MMC. That's what made them so perfect. They were complex. Not exactly dark, just traumatic. All of the secondary characters were enjoyable, good guys and bad. The locations and clothing were practically characters themselves and I always love that! It was a tantalizing slow burn. Well worth the wait. The banter between all the characters was fabulous. I highly recommend 👌!

I did enjoy this book and I would recommend, I just wanted more. It’s another book that gets better closer to the end. I wanted more dragons, more fighting, more badass FMC from the beginning.
I will be continuing with the series, of course.

BookTok hyped this one up more than it should have been.

The narrator was excellent as the FMC and the side characters. Her MMC was not quite right so I’m happy to see that there are 2 narrators for the second book.

Good listen but….

Elowen’s journey is relatable and inspiring as she forms bonds with dragons and navigates complex relationships, especially with Cayden. The rich world-building immerses readers in a vibrant setting filled with intrigue and danger. The well-balanced pacing keeps the tension high while allowing for character development. While some plot twists may feel predictable, the emotional depth and character arcs make it a compelling read. A must-read for fantasy lovers seeking adventure and romance.

Fear the Flames is a captivating fantasy that explores themes of identity, power, and love.

Loved this book. Picked it up on a whim and the banter is great even in the first few chapters. Spicy burn. Really a Daenerys - focus one get her dragons everything else second. Curious to see what comes next

I loved this book and cannot wait for the next in the series. The two main characters are tough, funny, authentic and a totally joy to listen to as they unfold - a good balance of slow burn romance, strong friendship, and ‘real’ characters!

Fantastically Entertained!

I have seen this book recommended by romantasy fans and bloggers since it's release and found the premise interesting.

I struggled with this story a bit. It's always difficult to completely separate narration feedback from that of the story, as they go hand-in-hand with audiobooks.

The plot has a lot of gaps, particularly when considering feasibility. A good, strong story has to make sense to the audience or have a plausability. We have to be able to relate to characters and understand their motives, their cultures, how events around them unfold.

Consider our heroine, here. She's whisked away by her uncle from childhood imprisonment. She somehow manages to "build a kingdom" for herself that is hidden in mists and can't be found by other world kingdoms. She travels to other kingdoms and is somehow, given grace and respect as a monarch in her own right. She inserts herself among high nobility with little resistance. Her connection with the MMC is primarily based on physical attraction. He has grandiose sense of self and a somewhat creepy obsession with the MFC, and she doesn't really do much to warrant the importance she has to him and other key characters. I can't help but feel that a whole lot happens, and quickly, but without the build-up and foundation based in reason to invest me. Everything feels like a knee-jerk reaction. Relationships, other than the one MFC has with Finn, feel incomplete, surface level, and aren't able to make me FEEL the feels.

I wasn't a big fan of this narration. The MMC's rendering was reminiscent of a 2-pack-a-day-smoker, or someone with such a rasp, I kept imagining him as a frail old woman. I had difficulty deciphering story narration from characters' spoken words, from characters' internal thoughts, and found this made orienting myself to the story challenging.

Promising premise.

When the reader is doing their regular voice; I’m with it. I genuinely don’t know what’s going on when they try a ‘masculine’ tone but it is genuinely the most off putting sound. It sounds like my aunt who used to smoke a pack a day. I regret using a credit to buy this lol bc while I will reread the book; I will not be listening to this cover ever again
