Description

In just seven days, the world will crumble. The System's Descent will usher in a new era of chaos: wild animals mutating, monstrous creatures emerging, and the cessation of modern technology. Humanity will be left defenseless.

Drew Wright knows none of this. At least not until he is rudely ripped from his bed and thrust into a white room to undergo a taser-happy ‘Tutorial’. Turns out, he is one of a thousand randomly selected people to be forewarned of the approaching apocalypse. Now, he faces the delightful task of convincing his wife and mother of the devastation hurtling towards them.

As the System’s Descent draws near, Drew scrambles to prep supplies, fortify his home, and drag his elderly, TV-addicted mother away from her ‘shows’ long enough to listen to him. With monsters knocking at the door, how far is Drew willing to go to save those closest to him?

The dead rise to combat the encroaching darkness as Drew Wright taps into the only power that might save his loved ones—becoming Earth’s first Necromancer.

Entertaining, but a few minor issues.

I really liked the concept of this story.

It's a pretty close copy of Primal hunter with some minor tweaks and changes to try to make it unique. Unfortunately it doesn't go quite far enough to differentiate itself in that regard. It has the exact same premise of a progenitor who becomes a Chosen of a Primodial and gets an OP and unique profession. It differs in some ways but even goes so far as to make fun of the settlement name from Primal Hunter, Haven.

I feel like this was written to be satire of the other popular series like Primal Hunter and Defiance of the Fall, but doesn't quite hit the mark. They call the system integration "The Descent" instead of "The Fall" for example. The tone of the story varies wildly from numerous to serious but never really nails the transitions.

I really enjoy the concept of the hero bringing his Family and Friends along for the ride, so he's not a huge loner like Jake from Primal Hunter. The author tries to show the struggles and humanity of the characters as they go through the very traumatic system integration, which I really appreciate.

Narration is pretty solid, but without the range of the big hitters like Baldree or Hays.
