À propos de cet audio

There are three things you need to know about Elizabeth Finney: 1) She suffers from severe sarcastic syndrome, especially when she's unnerved, 2) No one unnerves her like Nico Manganiello, and 3) She knows how to knit.

Elizabeth Finney is almost always right about everything: the musical merits of boy bands are undervalued by society, "benefits" with human Ken dolls are better without friendship, and the sun has set on her once-in-a-lifetime chance for true love. But when Elizabeth's plans for benefits without friendship are disarmed by the irritatingly charismatic and chauvinistic Nico Manganiello- her former nemesis- she finds herself struggling to maintain the electric fence around her heart while avoiding electrocution or, worse, falling in love.

I liked how this story went along side the first book in the series but not enough to take away from the story itself. I enjoyed it and would have kept listening to the next novel but it is no longer free.

It was good

The narrator got a bit better as the story went on, but she was impressively devoid of emotion and really monotone. The story wasn't nearly as fun as the first 2 books and I found it to be annoying. I can see it being fairly accurate, given the early trauma the main character experienced, but I really didn't care for this one.

Not nearly as good as books 1 and 1.5

struggling to finish this. The protagonist is just soooo boring compared to the first book. This book feels so long!

long

Wished there was two narrators throughout. Epilogue with different narrators was annoying. Enjoyed the continuation of the series

Fun

Loved this story. Love the humour and quick wit. Nice change from the common romcom.

Great Writing

I really appreciate the normalizing of consent, it lacks significantly in some books but not here.

Appreciate the balance

I like this series. It’s playful, fun, a little spicy, and the characters are fun throughout.

Fun series, like the narrator

I really enjoyed this one - I was secondhand embarrassed a lot less than I had been in the first two, and the dynamic of love and loss was masterfully and tactfully done.
My only complaint pertains to the voice used to narrate Nico. The narrator used a quasi-Italian accent for a guy that’s supposed to have been raised since infancy in the US, and have attended a fully anglophone school. It took me out of it quite a bit, because here’s this typical Italian-American guy speaking like he was born and raised in Italy and just incidentally took up English.
Also, in the epilogue, he spoke without an accent since a new narrator took over just for that part. Very confusing
Anyways, apart from that, really did enjoy it.

Great but some odd narration choices

The story captured the personality type quite well. The journey of loss, fear and perception of love, at such a young age, and how it perpetuated the career path and personality of the main character very well. The constant self doubt and questions, the inner fight came through. From that, I believe that the voice of the narrator matched the character. It would have been great if they actually had a true male narrator to voice the other main character, but I was not bothered by the voice of the character. I felt as though a friend was telling me her story through her eyes. That is how I absorbed the story and how I enjoyed it.

Personality of character came through

This is one of my favourite books of Penny Reid’s and to have this narrated so marvellously was such a treat. The story itself is a classic second chance romance that is one of the most romantic stories I have ever read/heard. Debra Woodward’s voicing of Nico? OMG. So swoon-worthy. His slow, Italian-American accented voice is seductive. I forgot it was a woman narrating his part often. My heart would swoop with sighs at the combination of Debra’s voice and Penny’s words. She also did the other voices fantastically well, especially Sandra’s. I cannot wait to listen to more from this narrator. She is so good I am going to look up her other work. I will definitely listen to this one again.

Swooniest Narrator
