The 26th century. Once considered clandestine, the Spartan-II program has now gone public. Tales of armored supersoldiers fending off thousands of Covenant attacks have become the stuff of legend. While the Master Chief defends a besieged Earth and the myriad factions of the Covenant continue their crusade to eliminate humanity, an ultra-secret cell of the Office of Naval Intelligence known as “Section Three” devises a plan to buy the UNSC vital time. It will need hundreds of willing soldiers, though - and one more Spartan - to get the job done.

Description
The best-selling adaptation of the iconic video game Halo: Combat Evolved featuring the Master Chief - part of the expanded universe based on the award-winning video game series!
It's 2552. Having barely escaped the final battle for Reach against the vast alien alliance known as the Covenant, the crew of the Pillar of Autumn, including Spartan John-117 - the Master Chief - and his AI companion Cortana, is forced to make a desperate escape into slipspace. But their destination brings them to an ancient mystery and an even greater struggle. In this far-flung corner of the universe floats a magnificently massive, artificial ringworld. The crew’s only hope of survival is to crash-land on its surface and take the battle opposing the Covenant to the ground.
But they soon discover that this enigmatic ringworld is much more than it seems. Built 100,00 years ago by a long-lost civilization known as the Forerunners, this “Halo” is worshiped by the Covenant - a sacred artifact they hope will complete their religious quest for supposed transcendence, and they will stop at nothing to control it.
Engaging in fierce combat, Master Chief and Cortana will go deep into the Halo construct and uncover its dark secret and true purpose - even as a monstrous and far more vicious enemy than the Covenant emerges to threaten all sentient life on Halo and the galaxy beyond....

Brilliant Science Fiction
Whether or not you like Halo or have played any of the games in its series, I strongly recommend this book. If you like Lovecraftian, military oriented science fiction then this book will satisfy your curiosity and hopefully give you incentive to play some of the games! I also recommend reading Fall of Reach before to understand more about Captain Keyes, Cortana and the Master Chief's origins.

Great sequel.
Book 2 is a perfect expansion of Halo lore. It perfectly captures my nostalgia for Halo: Combat Evolved while expanding on the lore in a brilliant detailed way. The introduction of The Flood as a species is done from multiple perspectives in excellent fashion. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has either read the first book or played through the video game series.

Amazing story, well spoken
I enjoyed this second reading in the Hall series much more than the first. although both are good, the voice acting is this has much more effort put into it, while the reader seems to understand 'how' characters are supposed to sound. and nails the tone of voice on them. very few strange pronunciations as well. only issue are a few plot holes that I noticed throughout.

Halo CE the audibook
A beat by beat version of the video game but with a few added stories of different character's perspectives. The sub plots add a nice expanded view of the events that occurred in Halo 1. However, they do not really lead anywhere and serve little more than to pad the Master Chief and his epeience on the deadly ring. The narrator puts in the effort of voice acting and it can sometimes be a little louder than expected when he is portraying a yelling marine. the narrator misproncounces a words or key terms MJOLNIR. it is clear that the actor did not listen to the already established voices for characters but does an okay job. Overall, a good, simply written story competently read.

Pronunciation
The preformance was good, however, the pronunciation of some of the acronyms, such as H.U.D or O.N.I, was been said as if it were a word like Hud or Oni in the games. and since the books are based on the games. It only makes sense to stay consistent with the source material. other than the acronym pronunciation, the plot and preformance were excellent. A solid 4/5 stars.

Great book, narration is unnecessarily bad
I love this book. I listen to it non-stop for as long as I can. The issue I have is with the narration. Todd McLaren has a great voice, but some of the things he does incorrectly are such easy fixes that it screams laziness. This guy mispronounces EVERYTHING. How has no one told him how to pronounce words? It’s so infuriating to hear him butcher words that are so important like Mjolnir. Stuff that he should know like how it’s spartan ONE ONE SEVEN instead of one seventeen. If anyone who has played the game listened to his narration before it was released, every single problem could be fixed. That’s all it would have taken, one slightly competent reviewer to give some feedback.

The worst in the original Novels
This book fails to capture the imagination. It tries to be a direct copy of the events of the game while interjecting it’s own narratives to fill in the gap. The book does both of these things poorly in my opinion. Most of the original novels were Eric Nylund. This one was not. The writing was very sub par. It felt very scripted and didn’t explore very interesting Paths at any point. The fall of reach, first strike, contact harvest, and even the cole protocol were better than this book. Simply put, it’s wasted potential and boring. I would not recommend.

meh
while not as good as it's predecessor, it's entertaining enough I guess. certain plot points from the game are just completely boring, whereas the innovative narratives, such as that of the alien perspectives that go on their own missions, or the surviving humans fight to control their base, are much more enthralling. overall, the performance by the narrator is on par with the same as last time, although I wish he would pronounce 'rations' and 'Mjolnir' correctly.

a fantastic book, but the voice actor sold it
The voice actor in this book was single-handedly brilliant. Each character could be told apart, he added proper inflection and sounded genuine. Absolutely fantastic, 10/10 give it a listen mate.
