Description
The extraordinary story of Stefania Podgorska, a Polish teenager who chose bravery and humanity by hiding 13 Jews in her attic during WWII - from number one New York Times best-selling author Sharon Cameron.
One knock at the door, and Stefania has a choice to make....
It is 1943, and for four years, 16-year-old Stefania has been working for the Diamant family in their grocery store in Przemsyl, Poland, singing her way into their lives and hearts. She has even made a promise to one of their sons, Izio - a betrothal they must keep secret since she is Catholic and the Diamants are Jewish.
But everything changes when the German army invades Przemsyl. The Diamants are forced into the ghetto, and Stefania is alone in an occupied city, the only one left to care for Helena, her six-year-old sister. And then comes the knock at the door. Izio's brother Max has jumped from the train headed to a death camp. Stefania and Helena make the extraordinary decision to hide Max, and eventually 12 more Jews. Then they must wait, every day, for the next knock at the door, the one that will mean death. When the knock finally comes, it is two Nazi officers, requisitioning Stefania's house for the German army.
With two Nazis below, 13 hidden Jews above, and a little sister by her side, Stefania has one more excruciating choice to make.
Also includes a recorded conversation with author Sharon Cameron and reader Beata Poźniak, discussing Beata's decades long friendship with Stefania Podgórska and the legacy of the Podgórska sisters.

Eva holds the key to a deadly secret: Project Bluebird - a horrific experiment of the concentration camps, capable of tipping the balance of world power. Both the Americans and the Soviets want Bluebird, and it is something that neither should ever be allowed to possess.

Opal is a lot of things—orphan, high school dropout, full-time cynic and part-time cashier—but above all, she's a determined to find a better life for her younger brother Jasper. One that gets them out of Eden, Kentucky, a town remarkable for only two things: bad luck and E. Starling, the reclusive nineteenth century author of The Underland, who disappeared over a hundred years ago. All she left behind were dark rumors—and her home. Everyone agrees that it’s best to ignore the uncanny mansion and its misanthropic heir, Arthur. Almost everyone, anyway.

Powerful and Important
This book is both captivating and potentially transformative. That these events actually happened and what that might tell us about ourselves and what we've collectively come out of, so powerful and important.
Beautifully voiced. Just excellent.

Astounding True Story, Riveting!
The true storyline captivating from the start. I have listened to many audible books . this narrator of this book is so good and sounds so authentic. She brings each character alive so the reader feels she is listening to actual people and not somone reading a book narrator. I can't write enough positives about the reader. She is the best in this field that I have listened to on audible. there are many holocaust stories that include e rescuers I hope the narrator will read other stories of polish rescuers. having said that, Stefania and Helena's stoy is unique in the circumstances and events. Ligjt in Hidden Places truly is a riveting and astounding story.

Captivating
Powerful novel based on actual events in history. Beautifully told. Often heartbreaking but everyone needs to know what these people endured. The narrator is perfect.
