Drawing from the pool of psychological research on these topics, as well as the timeless wisdom of philosophers such as Plato, Nietzsche, and Tom Waits, he dissects religion and politics and the uncomfortable ways they have come to resemble one another. He looks at our relationships with money, entertainment, and the internet, and how too much of a good thing can psychologically eat us alive.

Description
From the New York Times bestselling author of Unfu*k Yourself comes tough-love that explains what makes relationships work: you taking responsibility to fix yourself.
“Love is patient, love is blind. . .” Until it’s not. Then what?
No matter how much advice we get or how much work we do on our “stuff,” nothing ever seems to make the difference. The truth of it is, you’re woefully ill-equipped for one of the most life-defining things you will ever take on—being in a committed relationship.
Whether you’re currently in one, want to be in one, half in–half out, getting over one, married, single, separated, divorced, or just overwhelmed with the whole thing, let’s cut through the morass of relationship schtick and put you back in charge. No flowery BS, no woo-woo strategies, systems, or techniques, just real talk, for real people who want a real relationship in their life that actually works.

I’ve read:listened to similar books. But Gary has one way to bring these subjects up and make up own your shit. Love his books. You must take notes and take action in order to consider any reading adequate. A candid kick in the a$$ about your relationships
Well, I'll be listening to this book multiple times. I've read (or listened to) all of Gary's books and this one is just as amazing as the others. I love his no-nonsense approach and calling-out that we do not have the ability to change others, only to change ourselves.
May I also recommend his podcast and calendar to help you remain mindful as you try to absorb the message and do the work.
I wish for all of you...more love, less arguing.

The audible version was so amazing. I had to order the hardcover version so that I could highlight all the parts that Gary smacked me in the face and look at it on a daily. Such an eye-opener and not your ordinary self-help book on relationships. It is raw, real, and hurts at times. This book came at the perfect time in my life, and I recommend it to anyone struggling a little or a lot in a relationship.
Thank you Gary for creating this book 🙌

Wow wake up people yes you!
This book is spot on it is straight up and asking you to look at what it is that you’re committed to having in your life and if you’re willing to have your actions line up to it and that you are responsible for everything that you do and then acceptance is accepting someone for who they are and for who they’re not. Every time you get upset you’re not even present this book was like taking a three day course. Bravo GB

Worth the Listen
I have read or listened to all of GJBs books. This one hit the nail on the head when it comes to dealing with a particular relationship or relationships, but the points made were similar to the advice in all of his other books. You can change yourself and not others. Live by your values. I found it to be a very good reminder as to how I SHOULD behave, but found it lacking in terms of providing do-it-now strategies. I think this would be 5 stars if it had an accompanying workbook to help someone identify his/her values and tricks/tips to apply them in another way other than using sheer willpower (but perhaps that is the only way). This book did help me see the ways I am holding onto resentment/anger but I'd like solid strategies to let it go and move on. My willpower just isn't always enough. This said, I will be keeping this in my library to listen to again and again.

If you lack thick skin and accountability, avoid this book
Gary’s performance is excellent for this audio book. He is far from monotone and you can feel the emotion connected to what is being read.
This is a brutal honest look at yourself inside a relationship and what you can control. He describes various ways how we contribute toward every relationship in our life. I think combining this book with extreme ownership is an excellent combination toward taking back control of your life.

Not much there
There’s simply not much in this book. If you are a semi-self reflective person then skip this one and the author’s self promotion. If you are not at all self-reflective, then you may find some basic nuggets of wisdom.

I was hoping for more.
After reading the reviews and listening to the sample intro, I couldn’t wait to dig in to this masterpiece. I listened to it on a long drive and kept waiting, chapter after chapter, to learn something new or life-changing. I wasn’t expecting any sort of woo woo, the Universe loves you content and fully expected the book to be a no nonsense approach to changing. But every chapter left me wanting more and by more I mean something, anything at all that would go above and beyond what every other book out there has already said. There were only a few practical approaches given and most of it just felt like a big waste of time to me. I will say the author/narrator was fantastic, so I did enjoy listening to his reading. Outside of that, I didn’t learn anything new or anything to put into practice. And trust me, I was eager.

assumes a bit to much
I like his books, but he assumes he knows all about relationships and assumes we are all the same. In addition, using the F-word so much is a bit too much. Again, I love his other books; this one falls short. Keep writing and I, of course, will listen to your other books.
