À propos de cet audio

Number one best-selling authors Preston & Child bring the true story of the ill-fated Donner Party to new life in a thrilling blend of archaeology, history, murder, and suspense.

Nora Kelly, a young curator at the Santa Fe Institute of Archaeology, is approached by historian Clive Benton with a once-in-a-lifetime proposal: to lead a team in search of the so-called "Lost Camp" of the tragic Donner Party. This was a group of pioneers who earned a terrible place in American history when they became snow-bound in the California mountains in 1847, their fate unknown until the first skeletonized survivors stumbled out of the wilderness, raving about starvation, murder - and cannibalism.

Benton tells Kelly he has stumbled upon an amazing find: the long-sought diary of one of the victims, which has an enigmatic description of the Lost Camp. Nora agrees to lead an expedition to locate and excavate it-to reveal its long-buried secrets.

Once in the mountains, however, they learn that discovering the camp is only the first step in a mounting journey of fear. For as they uncover old bones, they expose the real truth of what happened, one that is far more shocking and bizarre than mere cannibalism. And when those ancient horrors lead to present-day violence on a grand scale, rookie FBI agent Corrie Swanson is assigned the case...only to find that her first investigation might very well be her last.

Old Bones by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child doesn’t disappoint. A great thriller, featuring Nora Kelly from years ago and Corrie Swanson. It was great to have them in the same story. The twists and turns are great and the surprise ending satisfying. Anyone following these authors will enjoy this and new readers will have a new series to go back and read. Cynthia Farrell did a wonderful job narrating.

Peterson and Child string together a meandering mystery that will keep the reader involved. Farell's storytelling gives a certain urgency to the story that had me listening to more chapters than originally planned. Enjoy!

Excellent crime mystery

Loved it. Good you see old characters reunited again from previous Pendergast books. Only glitch was the voice for Pendergast , you should have brought Rene in for it ... he will always be Pendergast's voice!

Very Good

The plot winds itself around a western mystery involving a young FBI agent investigating a modern day, crime linked to the notorious Donner party. The book starts out well and introduces a number of interesting characters. The protagonist is a self-doubting newbie FBI agent, struggling with her first case and imposter syndrome. As the plot progresses, the plot moves from subtle and novel, to obvious. The final resolution is both unsatisfying from a literary standpoint as well as scientifically bunk.

The plot was a little sophomoric, especially towards the end

Preston & Child provide an interesting foray into the past that this horrible, terrible, bad, bad, bad narrator can't quite kill. Every single time Farrell tries to breathe life into female characters they are portrayed as either breathy simpletons or straight up snarky, and she REALLY needs to spend even 15 minutes listening to what a gentleman from New Orleans ACTUALLY sounds like. She makes him sound like a stuffy, pompous British man from Heaven can only guess where who sometimes sneaks in a smattering of Creole accent. Quite frankly, Agent Pendergast deserves far better treatment. If you can block out the characterizations, you'll be able to enjoy a great tale.

Preston & Child come through again
