Peter Parker's life has hit a peaceful stretch. No evildoers have tried to flatten him in weeks, his marriage to Mary Jane is stronger than ever, and he's enjoying his job as a high-school science teacher. Life is good. Naturally, that doesn't last.

When Peter learns that his old enemy, the Rhino, is on a rampage in Times Square, he suits up as Spider-Man to stop the destructive villain in his tracks. But he's unexpectedly foiled in his attempts by the Black Cat, a former ally and old flame. The Cat informs Peter that the Rhino is just a distraction - the real threat comes from a group of Ancients, members of the same race as the being called Morlun, who Spidey defeated in battle years earlier. The Ancients are now looking to exact revenge - and hope to steal Spider-Man's life force in the process.

To defeat such powerful beings, Spider-Man is going to need all the help he can get, especially from the Black Cat. But what will Mary Jane Parker have to say about that? Peter isn't sure which is worse - the Ancients trying to drain his life force or the wrath of a jealous wife....

I love Spider-Man and I love Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files, but this book just didn’t land for me. There are some great parts- he writes the action sequences well and does a great job of explaining superhero physics. But the over all story left me a bit flat.
The narrator is good, he landed Peter very well, and I enjoyed his voice.
If you are looking for a light, fun read and loves you some Spidey then this might work for you.

loved the store of a much older spiderman struggling with adult problems such as marriage. as an audiobook, it was also well narrated in my opinion. worthwhile for any spiderman fan looking for a new story to hear on your way to work on the bus and on your way home.

Pretty damn good audiobook. I wasn’t the biggest fan of peter Parker’s voice at first but it grew on me. I like Morlun as a villain especially knowing him from the spider verse graphic novel.

Great Spidey story

I've been reading Spider-Man on and off since the 1960s. This novel hits the mark so far as characters are concerned. I checked to find out if Jim Butcher has done any regular writing for Marvel, and this is the only entry.

Spidey has the same kind of witty, irreverent banter as Harry Dresden, so the portrayal is perfect.

The performance was questionable at first but it grew on me.

There was above normal levels or “cringe” through out the book with dialogue.

Not the best Spider-Man novel but worth the listen.

You buy an audiobook just as more for the Narrator as the Author.
He reads nice and has a good speaking voice but his individual character voices are non-exitstant.
What the hell Jim? Was James Marsters busy or what.
The story is great though.
