🐈‍⬛ I hate spoilers so here’s a vague summary! This is book 2, so if you haven’t read Smoke & Scar, start there! We’re back with our babies Cedric and Elyria for more chaos and I’m SCREAMING. Negative forces are gathering and plotting, and they have a head start. It’s up to our girl and her entourage of found family to get to the bottom of it and stop the evil bad guys before they can get a toehold on Total Destruction™️. Cedric and Elyria absolutely cannot give in to their feelings for each other when the stakes are this high. But neither can they deny the pull between them. 💚

🐈‍⬛ This series will un-alive me. I swear 💀 . I am so invested in Cedric and Elyria’s story! I just love their chemistry and the will-they-won’t-they and the dancing around each other literally and figuratively! I love that Elyria is even more of a bad@ss than Cedric! I also appreciated how the human vs Arcanian dynamic continues to be a mirror for ongoing real world problems like othering, racism, and xenophobia. Everything. Is. An. Allegory. And reading is political ✌️. 💚

🎧 The audiobook is duet narration and has the same narrators from book 1. I loved it! I was able to speed it up to 2x speed comfortably! Which is good because I tend to want to speed it up when things get really tense 😅

I am so glad I waited for this release before starting book 1 because these characters are so addictive.

Elyria and her baddie fae self and Cedric the human whose honestly not far off. Gretchen has such a way with words, where she walks with you and these characters through this world that feels so real. No info dumping, learning with the characters and seeing their flaws (IM LOOKING AT YOU ELYRIA...) in all their raw flawed gloriousness.

I laughed, I cried. I need book 3 to come asap. (Nov 2026)

Genuinely one of my favorite reads of this year. I crushed the audio in a couple of days and WHEW their voices are beautiful.
