Joe the Ritualist fled Alfheim with the remnants of the Dwarven Oligarchy at his side. Jotunheim is a winter wonderland featuring a vast array of monsters: the least of which are hulking lizard-ape Hoardlings, and carnivorous penguins standing a dozen feet tall.

The world is massive, deadly, and empty: But all Joe sees is free real estate. Thanks to Specializing in magics that allow him to rapidly create buildings, the Ritualist starts carving out a defensible area for his allies. Dense walls, workshops that churn out weapons and armor, even magical edifices that rain death upon the swarming creatures. Being so new to the world, they mistakenly believe that expanding quickly equals safety.

But on the world of giants, ramping up production just means ringing a bigger dinner bell.

Absolutely love this series, wonderful performance! Can't wait to see the next adventure for Joe and Jackson and round about way the author will take them there!

The author wrote a book and split it in half. this is the first half and the disconnect it uses to seperate itself from the "next," book, the second half is very ham handed. As with other authors that have done this, I've bought the first to see if it is worth paying twice for what should be a single book.

it's not. this is the last dakota krout book I will spend money on.

Everything’s changed in this book. Gone are the funny interactions, the jesting. Warning: plot elements after this: Instead it’s multiple attacks over and over, Joe’s in depression and anxiety. Dwarves are splitting up. It’s obvious even the narrator’s not having as fun with this one. It’s fifty fifty if I splurge for the next episode. Sorry..I hate to say this because I loved the series.

Very disappointing, it’s almost like this book was an afterthought.
