As the fourth book in the Dark Verse series, The Finisher had a lot to live up to. While it delivered on the action-packed intensity RuNyx is known for, it didn’t quite hit the same depth as its predecessors. The pacing dragged at times, making it feel like the story was taking forever to unfold—I’ll admit, I even zoned out here and there.
That said, the overarching plot that connects all the books? Absolutely top-tier in this one. I did not see that twist coming. The unraveling of secrets in the final stretch had me gasping, slapping my forehead, and rubbing my face like I just witnessed a masterclass in deception. RuNyx’s ability to weave her intricate web of mystery is unmatched.
The first half leaned on the lighter side, which was unexpected, but the last few chapters? Insanity. While this wasn’t my favorite installment, I still enjoyed it more than I initially expected. I just wish we had more show rather than tell when it came to Alpha and Zephyr’s past—though there’s a chance we’ll get more of that one day.

With two books left in the series, I’m still intrigued to see where RuNyx takes us next. Even though The Finisher wasn’t the strongest, the Dark Verse world remains one of the most addictive and unpredictable dark romance series out there.
