Jess needs a fresh start. She’s broke and alone, and she’s just left her job under less than ideal circumstances. Her half brother, Ben, didn’t sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn’t say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris. Only when she shows up—to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this?—he’s not there. The longer Ben stays missing, the more Jess starts to dig into her brother’s situation, and the more questions she has.

It will change your life perspective !
I think 2020 has been a rough year for a lot of us, and more than ever, a lot of us can really relate to Nora in the beginning of this book. You walk along side Nora every step of the way, and honestly, it kinda feels like you’re walking through a philosophical/spiritual awakening with her. When I started this book, I was in a really dark place, probably the most hopeless I’ve felt all my life. Matt Haig has so many powerful quotes in this book, that really reminds you of all the hope and opportunity that there truly is out there. It’s a great reminder that even when you think everything feels hopeless, there’s so many possibilities. I adored this book, and I can almost dare to say that it saved my life :)

Perhaps that’s why I found it so easy to connect with this book. I couldn’t stop listening. I found the narrators voice to be fitting and soothing.
If you’re in a similar situation to Nora I’m sure you can find it to be a bit life changing or even thought provoking. I will be listening to this one again and again.

Banish regret
Powerful and highly entertaining book about beating depression and it’s root causes - like regret. “It is easy to regret, and keep regretting, ad infinitum, until our time runs out. But it is not lives we regret not living that are the real problem. It is the regret itself. It's the regret that makes us shrivel and wither and feel like our own and other people's worst enemy.”

Fulfills my dream of a grand, undoable do-over
I was hooked from the moment I read the blurb for this book. Like probably every human ever, I have often wondered what my life might be like if only I had done one thing differently, or had done something else at a different time, and so on. Even though intellectually I grasp that we all do the best we can until we know better, this book tapped into the part of me that still has some regrets, particularly when my choices have affected those around me. It pulled out my innermost secrets and shadows and made me think about them in a whole new way. This one goes onto a very short list of books I plan to read (or listen to) again. MUCH LOVE.

A bit cheesy, but great.
Needed this. The writing is easy (characters a bit flat and there are other literary foibles), but the story was absorbing and timely. To my surprise I got lost in it. Theme is a tad hokey (bourgeois angst and malaise) but it is exactly that of which my heart needed reminding. Despite my internal divisions, my enjoyment won out. Carrie Mulligan provided skilled narration - hoping to hear more of her on audible.

The incredible lives of Nora Seed
Beautifully narrated by Carey Mulligan and sensitively written by Matt Haig I found myself travelling along with Nora on her journeys, understandings, dissolving regrets and growing love for her self. The Midnight Library held my attention as, although, it starts off with such loss and depression it always seems to give you the dangling carrot of hope, unexpected circumstances and I really liked Nora. I do not think there are many people who have not experienced these thoughts and emotions, whether they share them with others or not, whether they are fleeting for a few weeks or months after a major life crisis or whether depression stays with you for years; most human beings have experienced how Nora felt and because of this have empathy for her situation. It's a good book that never drags, it's well paced and you get just enough of her new life before she moves on. Carey Mulligan really breathed life into Nora and was a treat to listen too on audio despite the initial heavy subject matter it was a very good read/listen. This book will stay with me for a while as I sift through my thoughts on it and indeed, my own life and the possibilities ahead.
