Ex-military policeman Jack Reacher is a drifter. He’s just passing through Margrave, Georgia, and in less than an hour, he’s arrested for murder. Not much of a welcome. All Reacher knows is that he didn’t kill anybody. At least not here. Not lately. But he doesn’t stand a chance of convincing anyone. Not in Margrave, Georgia. Not a chance in hell.

Description
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • THE BLOCKBUSTER JACK REACHER SERIES THAT INSPIRED TWO MAJOR MOTION PICTURES AND THE STREAMING SERIES REACHER
Jack Reacher is back! The “utterly addictive” (The New York Times) series continues as acclaimed author Lee Child teams up with his brother, Andrew Child, fellow thriller writer extraordinaire.
“One of the many great things about Jack Reacher is that he’s larger than life while remaining relatable and believable. The Sentinel shows that two Childs are even better than one.”—James Patterson
As always, Reacher has no particular place to go, and all the time in the world to get there. One morning he ends up in a town near Pleasantville, Tennessee.
But there’s nothing pleasant about the place.
In broad daylight Reacher spots a hapless soul walking into an ambush. “It was four against one” . . . so Reacher intervenes, with his own trademark brand of conflict resolution.
The man he saves is Rusty Rutherford, an unassuming IT manager, recently fired after a cyberattack locked up the town’s data, records, information . . . and secrets. Rutherford wants to stay put, look innocent, and clear his name.
Reacher is intrigued. There’s more to the story. The bad guys who jumped Rutherford are part of something serious and deadly, involving a conspiracy, a cover-up, and murder—all centered on a mousy little guy in a coffee-stained shirt who has no idea what he’s up against.
Rule one: if you don’t know the trouble you’re in, keep Reacher by your side.
Ce que les critiques en disent
“It’s great to be back in [Reacher’s] company in a world where the bad guys get what’s coming to them. . . . A smooth transition for a much-loved character.”—The Observer
“As always, the bad guys—this time, Russian spies and American-Nazi thugs—discover too late that they are no match for Reacher. Despite the change in authors, the writing remains tight and the non-stop action is as propulsive as ever.”—Associated Press
“It’s terrific. . . . The story is just as powerful. . . . Brutal action mixes with keen-eyed detective work as Reacher metes out his own brand of justice. . . . If this novel is a harbinger of what’s to come, then Jack is in good hands.”—Booklist (starred review)

Meh! Not the best Reacher Book
I have read and or listened to most of the Reacher series. When a new one emerges, I'm there, ready and willing to part with my money. This time I wish I hadn't bothered. I can't recall any of the previous Reacher novels having an overt political bent to them, but this one does. Antifa, Russians, voting machines and fraud. Murder and mayhem for sure, but the old tropes are back. This book has been done before. Spoiler Alert: Our friend, Jack, finds himself trapped in an underground bunker with no way out, Sound familiar? Well it is, but what's worse, the writing is not "Child" worthy. Much of the story is expository and very little evocation in the action or the descriptive text. Even Reacher's dialogue is a bit over the top. Sorry folks, this one is a good one to skip. Sadly Mr. Lee Child has abandoned Reacher and left him in the hands of one less qualified. As for the narrator, I like Scott Brick, but this time his voice got on my tits. It was hard to differentiate between the characters which had me wondering who was talking.

Slightly disappointed
I am a huge Jack Reacher fan, but this book just didn’t have the same Reacher feel to it. It took me a while to get through. Also didn’t really care for the narrator.

Long anticipated but not impressed
I'm a long time Jack Reacher fan and had this book in my wish list since it was announced. After listening the book I felt somewhat unsatisfied by both the story and performance. The Reacher character was close to but not the same calm and well balanced not rushing personality that I grew accustomed to. In this book Reacher is more violent than usual without any particular reason. The performance was unexpectedly dull considering it was by Scott Brick, one of my favorite performer across many books and characters. Overall, I felt the team hasn't given enough efforts to produce the story as well as they could.

Very current topic
I am a huge Reacher fan so i will read anything with Reacher in it.
That being said, this was not the best work from Lee Child, but it it still did keep me guessing as to where the story was going to go.
Note: i listened to it twice

Good book, however you may lose interest half way.
I'm a big lover of 'Jack Reacher' books, however I do understand the comments made in regards to this one. In the middle, it got boring quickly... Too much political conversation... Once that portion was complete, it picked up somewhat and got me over the finish line.
As far as Scott Brick...fantastic narrator. Can't always blame who reads. If the material isn't up to par, what can anyone do...right.

Another Hit
Another winner, love the series, love the character. I've never been disappointed with the story lines. I don't always have time to pick up a book and read, I'm a mom of 2 kids under 6 so multitasking is where I'm at. Please never change the narrator as far as I'm concerned Scott Brick is the voice of Jack Reacher.

Scott Brick isn’t the guy for this.
Too much over annunciating makes him sound very effeminate which doesn’t fit with Jack Reacher stories. Over-acting??? It’s like when they picked Tom Cruz to do the movie?? 6’-5”/250? Cmon. A few bad choices made here.

After 20+ Reacher stories, I say good-bye...
Scott Brick was great. Yes, I was used to hearing Dick Hil tell me about Reacher's adventures, but that was not the problem for me.
I'm willing to suspend my disbelief to a certain extent when enjoying a good story, but this book pushed way past those limits with the continuous coincidences to make the storyline progress, improbable action scenes, and the somewhat predictable backgrounds of the villains in a failed attempt to try to make the book contemporarily relevant with a far fetched story.
If you haven't read the other books in the franchise, enjoy them, but in my humble opinion, don't waste your money on this one.

Child & Reacher deserve better narration
Good grief, the man with one character voice is back. I find myself rewinding just to try and figure out who is talking! Same voice, same cadence, same melodramatic sing song performance for every character . Jack reacher is 6’5” & 250, can we get someone with a little grit??? Please please re-record the last few books!

Where's Dick Hill?
The narration is excellent... I would have liked to have Dick Hill do Jack Reacher. The subtle comical timing and inflection of Dick Hills voice is missing.
Performance worthy of 5 stars.. Just not Dick Hill..
Otherwise classic Jack Reacher. Well done!

I'm a veteran in long-term recovery
I find the Jack Reacher series personally inspiring. and I've been a loner for the last 10 years. PTSD and struggling with substance abuse which started during my service time encouraged isolation. And these books have been a sort of companion from time to time. with the character of Major Reacher being someone I can look up to, somebody who's integrity I can emulate.
His character has been developed as the type of person, the type of officer, that enlisted men and women also love. For those of you who have not been in the military, generally officers may get the obedience of the enlisted troops but not necessarily the respect.
The believability and the continuity of the storylines work for veterans. Unlike some authors who have developed agents and criminals that are otherworldly and unbelievable.
As I got to the end of The Sentinel it felt natural, and I anticipated, that this particular story should continue on. So when Jack decided to return to Nashville with the first ride offered, it was a delightful twist at the end of a satisfying read.
I'm grateful to Mr. Child and the entire publication team for producing something that inspires veterans to recover, to live instead of die, and to live lives of integrity!

Stale Reacher book.
Reacher can overcome anything except liberal propaganda. Of course,, it's the Russians! except communism is good. Marxism is celebrated. Antifa is treated as if we are too stupid to look past their name to see their actions. If Childs wanted to be up to date, I would have rather seen a story with neo cons and neo libs pushing propaganda thru their media allies to get their way, instead of this stale story. I guess Childs is trying to level up on lib points so he took this angle.
Brick was solid. Of course, still getting used to him as Reacher.

Here we go again...
Here we go again, just like Blue Moon, Lee Child wants to go down the cringy Russian interference rabbit hole, only this time, it's the Russians and NAWTSEES! Seriously, this stuff is such low hanging fruit, but I guess some people wish so much for it to exist in reality that the only way it can is in a fictional book for people to read. Lee Child is really loosing it, he needs to go back to the days when Reacher was Apolitical, sarcastic, banging hot single women he met, and solving actually interesting and suspensful mysteries. Also, nothing against Scott Brick, but the man just makes it so hard to follow what characters are talking when having conversation. Dick Hill is by far the best narrator, so please have him narrate in the future, and find more interesting content than MUH RUSSIA INTERFERENCE and NAWTSEES to write books about.

Reacher at his finest
Maybe Jim wanted to go out on a bang. Perhaps Andrew wanted to show off how well he would do telling the story. Or maybe it was Scott Brick's always-flawless narration. Whatever the reason, it was the perfect storm, and this was probably my favorite Jack Reacher story yet. I'm confident that Andrew will do great things going forward. Until the next Reacher novel comes out, I'm going to drive in to Andrew Grant's other works since he did so well here. Starting at the beginning with "Even." Best of luck, Lee Child in your retirement!
