“Through her smooth, dramatic performance, award-winning actor Rosamund Pike amplifies the new audiobook of book one in Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series.”—BookPage on Eye of the World (Earphones Award winner)
The Wheel of Time is now an original series on Prime Video, starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine!
In The Shadow Rising, the fourth novel in Robert Jordan’s #1 New York Times bestselling epic fantasy series, The Wheel of Time®, Rand al’Thor now wields the sword Callandor. He is both the Champion of Light and the Dragon Reborn. Now, he seeks answers to another prophecy that lies with the warrior people known as the Aiel to put him on the path of learning how to wield the One Power.
Accompanied by Moiraine Damodred, Rand arrives at the Aiel Waste and is granted permission by the Wise Ones to enter the sacred city of Rhuidean. After passing through a doorframe ter'angreal, Moiraine gains foresight while the Aiel await Rand's return, either with both arms marked by dragon symbols, validating his identity as He Who Comes With the Dawn, the Chief of Chiefs of all the Aiel—or to never emerge at all.
Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time® has captivated millions of readers around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters. The last six books in series were all instant #1 New York Times bestsellers, and The Eye of the World was named one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read.

What I didn't like, compared to the previous 3 books, is the difference in volume. Sometimes, one can barely hear what is said, other times it is extremely loud and makes one jump. I understand that different volumes add to the magic and make the action unravel better, but this one was taken to the extreme. I would tone it down quite a bit, this was not an issue in the previous books.
Pure talent, every character sounds unique!

One can only laud Ms Pike for the read - it's very well coordinated and coherent in-and-of itself. Clearly, a lot of hard and very skilful work went into this recording. Brava!
The voice colour and characterizations are interesting if slightly more uniform in colour than one might have hoped. All characters from the major geography of the story have some regional accent from the British Isles, characters from another distinct region are clearly Nordic inspired, and yet another people sound deeply southern American. Fair and good, if not quite what I heard in my own head (I always heard Illianers speak with a Spanish inflection, for example, with Bayle Domon inspired somehow by Indigo Montoya - but I digress).
I love Ms. Pike's English diction: it's crystal, like Mozart opera sung well. If you know what I mean, then you know what I mean.
That said, (and this is just my humble opinion) Ms Pike's choices when interpreting Rand al'Thor in this volume often lack textual foundation - something that can't be said of her performances in earlier volumes.
Spoiler Alert -----------------------------------
In this book, Rand's tone moves from that of a reserved, overwhelmed, and bewildered young man grappling with tremendous authority and treacherous opponents to that of an emphatic lunatic with a quickly loosening grip on reality, and back again. Discussion about Rand's overall arc through the series aside, there simply isn't evidence in the text of this book to suggest such extreme swings when this happens.
Worse, it leaves little room for Rand's progression in subsequent books, as his "madness" increases - if Rand's characterization betrays this level of insanity this early, where else can Ms Pike take him?
End Spoiler ------------------------------------
This is my only complaint thus far in an otherwise fabulous performance of a daunting Epic.
Hoping some choices are revisited in the next book
