À propos de cet audio
Beth and Cath are leaving their husbands.
This is a story about two very different women.
One is wealthy and having an affair with a man who gives her the kind of love that her cold, detached husband does not.
One is living hand to mouth, suffering at the hands of a violent partner who would rather see her dead than leave him.
You may think you know these women already and how their lives will unfold.
Beth will live happily ever after with her little girl and her soulmate.
Cath will go back to her abusive husband.
And these two women will never cross paths.
But you will be wrong.
On the 3.15pm train from London to Bristol, Beth and Cath are about to meet and discover they share one shocking thing in common.
A clever, engrossing and absolutely enthralling listen about what really lies beneath the surface of a marriage. Fans of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train will be hooked on The Stranger’s Wife.

It was summer in the mountains when five small children vanished from their nursery school picnic. The heat was stifling that day, the tinkle of an ice-cream van in the air.... Three-and-a-half years later, in the dead of winter, the children are returned to their families...one by one. All except for Ivy - the granddaughter of Homicide Detective Kate Wakeland. The other four children say Ivy is dead.

Whitney had some misgivings when she dropped her increasingly moody teenage daughter, Amelia, off at Lauren’s house. She’d never met the parents, and usually she’d go in, but Amelia clearly wasn’t going to let something so humiliating happen, so instead Whitney waved to her daughter before pulling away from the little house with the roses in front. But when she goes back the next day, an elderly couple answers the door - Amelia and Lauren aren’t there, and this couple swears they never were, that she’s at the wrong house.

A dark, compelling new thriller from best-selling authors Sarah A. Denzil and Anni Taylor. Young backpackers Gemma and Hayley arrive at a remote fruit farm in Australia’s Northern Territory, out of money and desperate for work. The weeks go on, a blur of fruit picking, parties, campfires and wading beneath waterfalls in the nearby hot springs. ..but falls juuust short.
The narrative follows two fairly clichéd relationship situations: 'Beth' in a loveless marriage.. complete with rampant infidelity & "use the child" divorce machinations; and 'Cath'.. in a textbook abusive relationship with a douchebag boyfriend. Anna-Lou Weatherley writes well-enough.. exploring those situations with a modicum of originality - but resorting to tried and true plot devices to describe the events (addictions, dishonesty, hidden motives, etc.). The story evolves into more and more sordid circumstances, multiple murders, and exposed underground sex rings.. but the characters pretty much react exactly as expected. 'The Stranger's Wife' is clearly not Weatherley's best effort.
James Lailey turns in a subpar performance on this one, too. His diction, timbre, and voice-acting are typically spot-on.. but his cadence is strikingly staccato for some reason. Lailey easily falls into an awkward rhythm.
I was offered this book as a Daily Deal, and it was a reasonable purchase for the $5.24CDN I paid for it. When it showed up as part of the 'Plus' initiative, I felt somewhat ripped off. Oh, well.
This book merits 5.5 stars out of 10 - and it's not a crazy way to spend a couple of quiet afternoons if you can get it as an included selection. If Audible asks for a Credit, however, better options beckon.
Somewhat Klunky Relationship Exposition
