A different perspective

I must beg to differ with the Oof review.
I came at the audiobook after having watched the 1st season of the Netflix's dramatisation.
This pre knowledge allowed me to easily orient myself in the web of characters, crisscrossing naturatives, deepen the essentials and keep going.
Being dyslexic when tackling the written word, audiobooks have opened up a universe of literature hitherto inaccessible to me.
I could not help but admire the arduous task of translation from the Chinese, and the quality of the audio rendition, clearly the work of a professional.
If you are curious to flesh out your understanding of 3 Bodies, please do not deny yourself access to this monumental piece of work.

Brilliant provocation

The story will change your perspective - specifically how we imagine discoveries are yet to be discovered when the reality is they may already be apparent.

Great performance, I appreciate the sound effects.

Fascinating story

Very good listen, I found the narrators voice nice to listen to.
Being an English speaker I had difficulties following all the Chinese names but that’s my problem and not the author or narrator.

Oof, that was a rough listen

There's a lot of hype around this series right now, with the Netflix adaptation about to debut, so maybe my expectations were set too high, but wow, was this ever a colossal disappointment. I wanted to bail on it many times, but I figured I'd better see it through, if only to leave an honest review.

I gave the story two stars only because there's an intriguing plot nestled amongst a load of god-awful dialogue and bone-dry speculative astrophysics. I can see how this could be the basis for a good TV series, but as an audiobook, it falls extremely flat.

Part of the problem is undoubtedly the translation from the original Chinese text. I'm sure translating a novel is no easy task, and the result in this case is brutally clumsy prose and stiff dialogue. It's like the audiobook version of poorly dubbed anime.

As for the narration, I'm usually a sucker for seasoned screen actors as narrators, but Rosalind Chao does nothing to salvage this audiobook. Granted, she's given very little to work with, but again, what a disappointment. The previous version (narrated by Luke Daniels or something?) might be better, but I wouldn't count on it.

I try to avoid leaving overly negative reviews like this, but I felt compelled to warn anybody who, like myself, might be tempted to see what all the hype is about.

This, in my opinion, will be a much better story to experience through the medium of television rather than as an audiobook.

TL;DR: this is a very bad audiobook, but it could probably make a pretty good TV show
