Description

"Think and Grow Rich" is a motivational personal development and selfhelp audiobook written by Napoleon Hill and inspired by a suggestion from Scottish-American businessman Andrew Carnegie.

While the title implies that this book deals only with how to achieve monetary wealth, the author explains that the philosophy taught in the book can be used to help individuals do or be almost anything they want in this world. For instance, Jim Murray (sportswriter) wrote that "Think and Grow Rich" was credited for Ken Norton's boxing upset of Muhammad Ali in 1973.

The book was first published in 1937 during the Great Depression. At the time of Hill's death in 1970, "Think and Grow Rich" had sold 20 million copies. It remains the biggest seller of Napoleon Hill's books, a perennial bestseller after 70 years (BusinessWeek Magazine's BestSeller List ranked "Think and Grow Rich" as the sixth bestselling paperback business book 70 years after it was first published).

"Think and Grow Rich" is listed in John C. Maxwell's "A Lifetime Must Read Books List".

One of the best deceived stories

At first I found the book rather intriguing, the concept made sense. If you focus all your energy into one goal you will accomplish that goal because your entire thought process is geared toward accomplishing that goal. I found the stories of how people found success through determination and was really like “wow, these are some great stories” especially when I started reading about his deaf son with no ears. I was so intrigued that I wanted to find out more information and thought there must be a crazy biography on this kid who had no ears and learned to live a fully functioning life and inspired other deaf children to take action of there lives and move forward. In trying to find more information it seemed increasingly harder to even find references to Napoleon Hills son with out the reference pointing to the book. Then upon further investigation it led me to realize that the real Napoleon Hill was considered a Con Artist, who has skipped out on many towns after scamming people for their monies experiencing the rise of success and wealth only to blow on unnecessary and lavishing expenses which soon dried up his funds causing him to go out and scam some more. This lead him into writing a couple other books most of which were flops until this book came around, which became an instant hit over the years and the original Napoleon Hill became forgotten and the character in his book became the real one. Another disappointing portion is when Napoleon Hill claimed to have had a meeting with Andrew Carnegie a very famous and wealthy person (not to be mistaken with Dale Carnegie the author) who taught Napoleon the “SECRET” and tasked him with acquiring the knowledge of success from all these great people. However when looking into this further it appears there was never a mention of this from Andrew Carnegie as well it didn’t fit his nature to do this when he had many influential people and hard workers who were in his life to get stuff done. However he was unable to comment in the book as it was written and published after Mr Carnegie had passed away. Unfortunate how that timing worked. Unfortunately after getting only a portion of the way through this book and riding the roller coaster of intrigue, excitement and then to utter disappointment I had to put the book down because I no longer felt compelled to learn from a person who had a university shut down by trying to set up a fraudulent mechanic shop in the auto class. Or tried to sell fake shares in an organization that was grossly undervalued. I believe this book show be titled “Think and write a book, then sell the book and grow rich” In the end this is all my personal opinion on the matter from what I read and believed to be true.

this booked changed my life forever

Think and grow rich is one of the most spiritually enlightening books I have ever read. Yes it's about getting money, but there is far more depth to the book than perceived at first glance. This book sparked a fire in me. I finally feel like I have an outer purpose. Eckhart Tolle helped me find my inner purpose, and this book helped me find my outer purpose.

could have been said in a paragraph

I know this book has received great acclaim but its message of "never give up" and "you set your own limits by what you will accept" is at best a pep talk it isn't much more than you could get in any fortune cookie It starts out like a chain letter talking about who has received this message and what its done for each of them while this message may be true and indispensable for true success, the idea that "everything else will fall into place once you're ready to accept it", is just a tacit admission that getting ready to accept it is the hard bit not covered in these pages.

Worst Book I've listened to on Audible!

This book has almost no redeeming qualities. At least a third of this book could be cut as it is just the author saying over and over how great the book is and how profound an affect it will have on your life. After the author finally starts to get into it, he tells a rambling anecdote to illustrate how determination is an important quality to possess if you want to be successful -how illuminating! It goes downhill fast from there. Here are just a few of the pearls of wisdom that followed: Deafness can be cured by wanting to hear, Prayer is essential to wealth accumulation, Visualize a -very- specific amount of money and your mind will bring it to you, By surrounding yourself with intelligent people you can gain insights through their brain vibrations, Use your psychic powers to gain a sixth sense akin to telepathy, Transmuting your sexual energy into power brings success, Don't be afraid of ghosts . . . and more! TLDR: This is not a useful self help or business strategy book. It is an out of date assembly anecdotes about early 20th century business magnates, woven together with mystical assertions about how they gained their wealth.

Horrid

The literary equivalent of thoughts and prayers. I bet the amount of millions lost far exceeds the amount gained by the influences of this book

good but a bit outdated

it's fun to have a perspective of the world from nearly 100 years ago, but some of the concepts and point of view are a bit outdated!

A must.

A classic in mindset and affirmations where you just trust the process instead of question it.

Bonne motivation, index de chapitres mal fait

Les chapitres sont mal faits pour le lire dans l'appli, c'est dommage, un audio livre est aussi ces annotation et titres qui permettent de naviguer facilement entre les chapitres. Deçu.

The table of content navigation is a disaster

Personally I like to browse the book and come back to chapters when I want to listen them again. To do this I use the table of content, however I ve never seen a more complex and unfriendly one than in this audiobook. The split is not by chapter but by unnamed pieces of 3 min each. Despite the good quality of the book and the superb reader, my experience was diminished by this issue.

Too bad... The chapters don’t fit the tracks of the audio books, the are 16 chapters and more than 100 tracks on this audio program.

chapters

i really enjoyed listening to this book. It is full of interesting knowledge and you get your aha- moments along the way to start realizng what lays next on your path. It is a pity though that there are an enourmous amount of chapters that do not relate to the books chapters. sometimes a "new" chapter even starts in the middle of a phrase. This makes it incredibly difficult to go back to a particular part of the book.

Great Book, inaccurate chapters

The book is a classic. Wish that the audio was broken down by real chapters instead of over 100 breaks at random with no rhyme or reason, so if you want to go to a particular chapter, you can’t!

A stepping stone for anyone beginning their intellectual journey

The idea is very clear and translated very well for any average reader, some of the social ideals are mildly questionable in this day and age in regards of what to expect when dealing with businesses and the offering of free service with the understanding that it won’t be exploited but in dealing with how to hold oneself to a standard and run their own business is very important. Also the $65 for an apartment in t he city of New York and $25 in suburbs gave me a good chuckle.

lots of thought provoking information.

the overall thoughts in this book are great. i like that the research to make this book was information from major historical figures. some of the ideas are a little out there, but for the most part it seems like if you let this book guide you. you can gain what you want in life.
