Description

The Custodian Guard have stood watch over the Emperor's Palace on Terra since the foundation of the Imperium. Charged with protecting the Master of Mankind from all threats, within and without, their fearsome resolve is renowned throughout the galaxy, and their golden armour is the last thing that a would-be assassin or saboteur will ever see.

Alongside the Null-maidens of the Sisters of Silence, who are anathema to psykers and sorcerers alike, there is no threat to the Golden Throne that they alone cannot vanquish...until now.

Exceptional

Fills in a great deal of back story on the sisters and the custodians. Very well written and performed. This was a alot of fun to listen to. If you have previous knowledge of what happened to Cadia and how the Primarch returned this story goes from good to great.

One of the best 40k books written

This book provides a vivid account of the months leading up to and following the opening of the great rift and the fall of Vaduva from the perspective of Terra.

Enjoyed greatly

Excellent writing and good character development.

Switches between a custody, sister of silence and consoler on terra during gathering storm. Story starts out slow and gradually builds very well.

Just a warning, even though this happens during gathering storm the perpectives is on terra so dont expect any big reveals into major events of gathering storm.

it was alright!

It was okay! the voice actor/actresses did fine, I didn't find the story overly engaging. I did however just listen to the dark imperium series and talon of Horus series, so my standards might be set a bit high.

Amazing work!

If I could I would have stood up and given Chris Wraight and the narrators a standing ovation. Absolutely brilliant in all fronts. I'm starting it ver immediately and I'm sure I'll pick up tons of things I missed.

Enjoyable from start to finish

Loved this story, it has a good cross between narrative and bolter open. I would suggest this to anyone wanting to know more of how Custodes and Null Maidens think.

Great to see Black Library on audible!

I liked the story more than I expected (didn’t know what to expect though). Chris Wraight is one of my favorite BL authors- & I think his writing helped carry the book. The characters have depth to them, but the action sequences are well written & not confusing.

I know a fair amount of the story that led up to this setting- so I can’t recommend just blindly diving in.

stay away from the black library app

I purchased this audiobook along with another and an audio drama on the black library app... Due to unfortunate complications with the BL app, I had to make the purchases again; I'll gladly do so seeing as though I loved each one of my purchases that much!
I have listened to each one more than 10 times separately and may end up adding the "carrion throne" to my collection. 😏 I must be kidding myself I am definitely going to add it to my collection.
I have purchased this book four times now; only one was a gift!!

My collection is as follows:
"The master of mankind"
"The emperor's legion"
pretty soon hereafter the review "the carrion throne"
"The interrogation of Salvador Lermentov"

Great Story to Immerse yourself in.

Loved it, 40k is a beloved franchise to me and this was phenomenal. The characters are felt and the story is worked through in elegance.

Great story and listen

One of the better audio books with different voices for each of the main characters. Overall in my top 5 definitely recommend for any sisters of silence or custodian fans.

Terra in a new age

Chris Wraight has yet to let me down. Another great book. Watchers on the Throne is a great book for those just getting into the lore of Warhammer 40k following the events of A Gathering Storm.

Watchers of the Throne focuses on Terra during the universe shaking events on cadia covered in Gathering Storm. It is told from the perspectives of 3 characters. Valerian, a Shield-Captain of the Adeptus Custodes, Teiron, the Chancellor of the Senatorum Imperialis, more commonly known as the High Lords of Terra, and Aeyla, a sister of silence witchseeker. Each chapter in the book is told from a first person perspective of one of these three. Valerian's and Aelya's chapters spend a lot of the early book building the lore of their organizations. Both the Custodes and the Sisters have stepped away from the Imperium since the Horus Heresy and its interesting to see where this has led the two organizations. Teiron's chapters focus on the politics of the High Lords. His later chapters tell the story from the point of view of an unaugmented human in a battle between Demigods and demons.

I can't praise the narration of this audiobook enough. Black Libray has some great narrators working for them, and this book goes the extra mile. Each of the POV characters has a different narrator, which really helps immerse you in the story. Aelya especially benefits from this in having actual female narrator.
