About a decade ago, I found myself struggling with my health. Bad.
At 40 years old, I was overweight, out-of-shape, sluggish, and tolerated a lot of health issues that I just assumed were part of the natural aging process.
Turns out, I was wrong.

The first word we see in the Bible for healing is iaomai— meaning “miraculous” and “instantaneous” healing.
This is how we most often envision Jesus healing. This word appears 30 times in the New Testament.
(See examples in Matthew 8:13, Mark 5:29, Luke 8:47, John 12:40.)
✅
As I began losing weight— for purely cosmetic and personal reasons having nothing to do with my health— the health issues began to evaporate. Almost overnight.
That’s what led me to learn about a second word we see in the Bible that we OFTEN translate as healing: therapeuo.
The word means “to serve, to attend to, or to wait upon menially” and “to heal gradually over time with care” and “to teach how to be well.
This word appears 40 times in the Bible- a bit more than the instant cures we usually associate with miracles.
(See Matthew 4:23-24, Mark 1:34, Mark 6:13, Luke 5:15, Acts 5:16, Acts 8:7, Revelation 22:2.)
🤷♂️
In the Bible we see BOTH kinds of healing.
Understanding why different are present matters SO MUCH, because it shows us what’s accessible to us…

We have far more control over our health than we’ve been taught.
We’re not victims of the genome- as if some of us got a good shake at the DNA-lottery and others of us didn’t. Science is showing, more and more, that we have far more power than we thought...
And that’s the subject of this talk.
