  • Flirt, Friend, or Fantasy: Men & Women Can't Be Friends!
    Jul 31 2025

Today, Thamousca chats with Annie Obsaint. She’s a Registered Nurse and a serial entrepreneur whose business journey began back in her college days. Over the years, she has launched and operated several successful ventures, including a catering business, an accessory line, an organizing service, and a recovery wellness center. Today, she is the proud Co-Founder of Perfect My Silhouette, a shapewear company that supports individuals in their post-op healing process, which she runs with her sister. Currently, she’s working on opening an Assisted Living Facility which caters to the needs of seniors who require assistance with activities of daily living. When she's not wearing her nurse's hat, Annie is playing “Tati” with her five beautiful nieces or exploring new corners of the world through solo traveling.

This episode dives into the myth “Men and Women Can’t BeJust Friends.” Annie and Thamousca explore the historical, cultural, and societal influences this belief has had in shaping how men and women interact with each other. The ladies explore whether cross-gender friendships are possibleand share their experiences of having platonic friendships that didn’t involve blurred lines. Annie and Thamousca discuss what they believe to be the fundamental ingredients to maintaining healthy platonic friendships from becoming problematic.

Annie is candid about her own journey with the concept that men and women “cannot just be friends” and what has shaped her view on the topic.

    In this interview, you’ll learn:

    - The impact of parental imprint on the decisions we make asadults

    - How pop culture has influenced the way we see cross gender friendships

    - The ingrained beliefs imposed by our mothers/parents

    - Components necessary to establishing and maintaininghealthy cross-gender friendships

Whether or not you believe men and women can truly befriends often comes down to personal values and lived experience. What matters most is understanding how this belief—or myth—may be shaping your choices and sense of self. We all have the right to decide what kinds of friendships work for us, as long as that decision is grounded in intention, not shaped by pressure, guilt, or manipulation. No one gets to decide for you who you can or can’t be friends with. If you are in a situation where you are forced to choose between your friend(s) or your partner, then you may need to re-evaluate that relationship dynamic – because that, my friends, is unhealthy!
